The Development Officer is responsible for helping to identify, cultivate, and solicit annual and capital donors to help advance Thomas’s strategic goals and vision. 


This individual manages a portfolio of 150+/- individual prospects and spends significant time out of the office meeting personally with prospects – alumni, parents, business leaders, former trustees and faculty, and other friends of the College capable of contributing $500+ to the Thomas Fund and/or committing to deferred support through planned gifts. S/he assists in moving donors up the giving ladder and develops appropriate acknowledgments, financial reports, and written materials accordingly, and plays a key role in engaging alumni and student volunteers. 


In addition, this individual helps to create and analyze appeals; organize and drive participation in the College’s annual Day of Giving; and may be enlisted to assist in stewardship efforts. S/he participates in the planning and execution of key campus events, including Homecoming and Family Weekend and other alumni engagement gatherings.


S/he works closely with the Director of Advancement and as part of a cohesive, outcome-driven development effort within the Advancement office. The Development Officer will promote the college’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) statement where applicable. 


Excellent knowledge of and track record in individual fundraising and best practices; strong interpersonal, writing, and communication skills; orientation towards working in a team environment. Must be a self-starter, deadline driven, and able to adapt and manage multiple and changing priorities. Ability to maintain confidentiality a must. Valid driver’s license and successful driver's license background check required.


Four-year college degree required. Additional requirements include: a minimum of three to five years of previous development experience with demonstrated success in relationship building, solicitation, and stewardship, preferably in a campaign environment; strong customer service focus; excellent verbal, written, and time management skills; strong knowledge of fundraising best practices and job functions. Raiser’s Edge or similar database experience and efficiency with Microsoft Office products preferred.
