About the job:

Our Personal Trainers play an integral role in developing and instructing personalized safe and rewarding wellness and exercise programs, to improve individuals' quality of life and connection to community while assisting individuals to achieve their personal goals.


A day in the life:

  • Create and deliver individualized personal training programs and activities based on client goals.
  • Closely supervises and monitors the safety, comfort and progress of participants.
  • Assists individual in developing and implementing modifications as indicated.
  • Develops rapport with participants and responds to questions, concerns, etc.
  • Collaborates with Fitness Program Coordinator/Fitness Program Assistant/Management staff to develop, plan and schedule sessions and follow up.
  • Communicates with staff regarding facility availability and schedule needs.
  • Maintains all required records and forms.
  • Sets up, take down, clean-up, before and after session as required.
  • Addresses program specific risk management and facility safety and cleanliness issues.
  • Facilitates inclusion of special needs participants in program.
  • Manages accidents and incidents according to procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

What you'll need for success:

Strong Knowledge of:

  • Exercise physiology, anatomy, Kinesiology, and current best practices in personal training and fitness practices and techniques for individualized programs.


Skill and Ability to:

Proficient at utilizing a variety of techniques, styles and formats; instruct and provide for the needs of a variety of individuals; communicate effectively; strong planning, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills; demonstrate a positive, motivating and caring demeanor when training; physically perform the duties associated with this position; work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive relationship with staff and the general public. Demonstrate competency in specialized area; communicate effectively with a diverse groups of people; ability to prepare and present lessons effectively to a variety of audiences including ages, abilities and levels; comfortable handling disruptions, conflicts, responding to problems and addressing customer service concerns, ability to handle emergency situations as they arise; physically perform the duties; work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive relationship with staff and customers.


What we’re looking for:

Education, Experience, and Training:

  1. Two years of college or vocational training with emphasis in exercise physiology, anatomy, Kinesiology, or related field; AND
  2. Two years of experience designing and delivering personal training programs; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of experience and training
  4. Possession of a current professional certification (i.e. ACE, AFFA, NASM, ACSM)

Supervision Responsibilities:

Supervision is not normally a responsibility of this position. 


Working Conditions:


Work schedule is varied and requires weekday hours, evenings, weekends and holidays. Work schedule requires constant attendance for short shifts. The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time. Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending and lifting, pulling, and kneeling. Work is done in a performance type setting and can be physically demanding. Position requires constant use of voice. Job stress may include dealing with crowds, uncooperative participants, difficult individuals, and periods of continuous demand.
