Laurens County is accepting applications for a Full-Time Library Assistant The desired candidate will under regular supervision, performs routine library functions and general clerical work in assigned service or administrative area of the Laurens County Library system. Work involves providing professional and courteous customer service at all times, and performing related tasks as assigned. Reports to an assigned librarian, Deputy Library Director or Library Director.

Requirements

  

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires an Associates degree or equivalent obtained at a two-year college or technical school in liberal arts, information technology or other relevant field supplemented by six months to one year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver's license.


The successful applicant is required to pass pre-employment background check, drug testing, and are subject to random testing. Compensation includes salary and a full health, retirement, vacation, sick leave and benefits package.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs routine library and general clerical work in a service or administrative area of the County Library, which may include Technical Services, Children's Services, Bookmobile Services, Circulation, or other area as assigned.


Opens and closes the County Library at established times of day; readies library equipment for daily use.


Assists patrons in using various resources and equipment of the library, including the Internet, online catalogue or electronic databases; refers persons needing additional assistance to a librarian; locates books and other materials for patrons; interprets 

library policies and procedures to the public.


Checks books in and out; places holds on books as requested; processes inter-library loan requests; inspects returned materials for damage; verifies due date; computes and receives fines; registers patrons for library cards; issues and renews cards; retrieves deposited materials from book return.


Sorts incoming library materials according to classification; re-shelves refiles or returns items to designated areas; receives and processes periodicals and newspapers; ensures previously shelved selections are in correct order; shifts materials to make way for new, additional selections; directs materials with improper or missing labels to technical services staff for repair.


Provides basic reference and reader's advisory services to patrons, referring patrons to librarian as needed.


Receives and records patrons' requests for new materials.


Assists in creating library signage, bulletin board displays and other displays.


Maintains and distributes tax forms to patrons as requested.
