About Us
Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is a fast-paced, community-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. CMAA serves the needs, promotes the interest, and enhances the well-being of diverse immigrant and refugee communities across Metropolitan Chicago through social services, advocacy, educational programming, and support for clients of all ages.
Founded by refugees fleeing the wars in Southeast Asia in 1981, CMAA is uniquely qualified to serve Chicago’s immigrant communities. Today, CMAA has evolved into a pan-immigrant social services agency, serving clients from over 40 countries representing Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. CMAA empowers our clients by ensuring our leadership, staff, and programming mirror the community we serve. CMAA’s diverse team collectively speaks over 20 languages and shares many of our clients’ countries of origin. Today, 72% of CMAA staff and 100% of our executive team identify as a person of color. Located in Uptown’s historic “Asia on Argyle” corridor, CMAA’s long-standing connection with the community has allowed us to remain a trusted, culturally competent, and reliable resource for Chicago’s northside immigrant communities.
Chinese Mutual Aid Association provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
