Therapeutic Movement Specialist

The Denver Waldorf School (DWS) is seeking a qualified candidate to join our faculty and staff as a Therapeutic Movement Specialist. The Therapeutic Movement Specialist will work as a member of our student support team providing one-on-one or small group therapeutic interventions to assigned students in Kindergarten - 8th grade. These interventions may take place in the classroom or in one of our therapeutic movement spaces. 

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

• Waldorf education experience and/or training.
• Training in anthroposophical-oriented therapeutic modalities, such as Extra Lesson, Spatial Dynamics, and/or Curative Education
• Training in therapeutic support work such as occupational therapy, INPP, and/or reflex integration.
• Knowledge and experience working with students with neurodiverse learning profiles such as ADHD, ASD, executive functioning, and sensory integration. 
• Experience providing therapeutic movement screenings to assess baseline and intervention needs.
• Sensory Integration knowledge and experience is desired, but not required.
• Warm and interested manner in approaching students, putting them at ease in a new and unfamiliar experience through an imaginative, playful “journey”.
• Patience and sensitivity to match the pace of each individual student so the student does not feel rushed or pressured.
• Warm and clear communication skills, particularly with faculty and parents.
• Ability to interpret observations to faculty and parents in accessible and practical language and suggest “next steps” as necessary.
• Strong organizational and written skills necessary for report writing.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Develop/implement appropriate one-to-one, small group, and classroom-student specific approaches based on initial observations and screening information.
• Support and train faculty in therapeutic movement strategies for the classroom specific to the needs of the student.
• Write periodic progress reports and share with faculty, parents, and Director of Student Support.
• Attend meetings and parent/teacher conferences when requested.
• Work with parents/guardians regarding the needs of individual students.
• Coordinate intervention schedule to support the rhythm and flow of the lower school day.

This is a part-time position during the school year, from Aug 2024 - May 2025, 12-15 hours per week.
