General Description
The Behavior Analyst will provide behavior analytic services in multiple capacities to clients in the Behavioral Health Clinic (BHC). In this role they will assist with client and staff supervision, assessments, programming, behavior planning, stakeholder support and training, and client instruction. In addition, the Behavior Analyst will assist with specific case management responsibilities, including but not limited to, preparation for utilization review meetings, service collaboration, and review meetings as scheduled. Service hours will occur on some evenings and occasional weekends. Position requires evening and weekend hours, as needed, to provide continuity of treatment and training of families/caregivers. Weekly billing requirement is approximately 63% of total working hours.
Essential Core Responsibilities
Provision of Behavioral Consultation Activities (30%)
- Conducts comprehensive assessments related to referred individual problem(s), both initially and annually as appropriate.
- Generates initial treatment plans for all assigned individuals, and modifies as needed.
- Advises parents, caregivers and other stakeholders on treatment practices, including but not limited to, data collection systems for continuous assessment, direct observation, and providing direct services.
- Provides direct services to individuals for the purposes of modeling and staff training to build capacity in others who serve the individual.
- Implements billable services (approximately 63% of total hours worked), including:
- Interviewing the individual, family members, caregivers, and relevant others to identify issues to be addressed and desired outcomes of consultation;
- Observing the individual in daily activities and natural environments;
- Assessing the individual's need for an assistive device or modification or adjustment, or both, in the environment or services including reviewing documentation and evaluating the efficacy of assistive devices and interventions identified in the therapeutic consultation plan;
- Developing data collection mechanisms and collecting baseline data as appropriate for the type of consultation service provided;
- Observing and assessing the current interventions, support strategies, or assistive devices being used with the individual;
- Designing a written therapeutic consultation plan detailing the interventions, environmental adaptations, and support strategies to address the identified issues and desired outcomes, including recommendations related to specific devices, technology or adaptation of other training programs or activities including training relevant persons to better support the individual simply by observing the individual's environment, daily routines and personal interactions;
- Demonstrating specialized, therapeutic interventions, individualized supports, or assistive devices;
- Training family/caregivers and other relevant persons to assist the individual in using an assistive device, to implement specialized, therapeutic interventions or adjust currently utilized support techniques;
- Intervening directly with the individual and demonstrating to family/caregivers/staff such interventions. Such intervention modalities shall relate to the individual's identified behavioral needs as detailed in established specific goals and procedures set out in the ISP;
- Providing diagnostic assessments, reports, and recommendations as needed.
Case Management (10%)
- Ensures that all assigned individual files contain necessary intake and enrollment paperwork, documents related to funding and payment (including contract), session notes (when applicable), assessment and treatment data, and client and/or guardian correspondence.
- Serves as the primary point of contact with assigned individuals and/or guardians for consultative services, as well as other members of the individual’s treatment team (e.g., physician, provider, etc.); when requested, attends treatment and progress meetings as appropriate, and ensures that all Faison and client-specific policies and procedure are conveyed to the individual or their designee.
- Reports progress in written form on the schedule determined at enrollment and responds to reasonable requests to share progress alternative to that.
Administrative Duties (60%)
- Responds to safety issues/emergencies as needed within The Faison Center as availability allows.
- Advises on safety and well-being of individuals served as it relates to materials, cleanliness, sanitization, etc.
- Attends trainings as required and directed
- Engages in other duties and projects, as assigned by supervisor.
Experience Requirements
- Experience with and the ability to work with people diagnosed with developmental disabilities, behavior problems, communication and social dysfunction, as well as with their families and other caregivers.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Expertise in the development and oversight of specialized curriculum and staff training.
- Knowledge, experience, and formal training in Applied Behavior Analysis.
Education Requirements
- Master’s degree in behavior analysis, education, psychology or a related field, required
- Hold or be eligible to acquire Virginia licensure in Behavior Analysis, required (must obtain license within 90 days of hire)
- Certification in Behavior Analysis, required (BCBA ®)
Essential Physical Requirements
- Lift 50 pounds (and keep back straight while doing so)
- Bend at all joints fluently
- Move in and out of and maintain a kneeling position for up to five minutes
- Reach in all directions
- Grasp using both hands
- Move quickly in both confined and open spaces to avoid safety issues
- Run in order to retrieve an individual who is moving quickly away from staff
- Maintain balance while lowering to a half squat position
