This internship opportunity is designed for individuals pursuing a career in education, allowing them to gain valuable hands-on experience in a supportive and collaborative environment. As an Academic Support Intern, you will work closely with OYC Miami Program staff and under the guidance of a certified teacher, engage in classroom activities, and contribute to the overall success of our students by providing 1:1 and small group homework assistance to Elementary-age students in either reading/language arts or math.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to assist students one-on-one or in small groups with homework for language arts or math for one or more sets of grade levels: 1) Kindergarten and 1st Grade; 2) 2nd – 3rd grade; or 3) 4th-5th grade.
- Assist lead teachers in planning and implementing instructional activities.
- Assist students with online learning (e.g., iReady) during academic support time
- Ability to assist students with writing skills and/or computer skills
- Ability to build relationships with students ages 5-11 Document the work of the students and keep data on overall student development (e.g., attendance, accomplishments, etc.)
- Participate in weekly meeting with lead teacher/curriculum specialist
- Actively participate in professional development workshops and trainings that are designed to contribute to personal and professional growth.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education or a related field
Strong passion for teaching and a genuine interest in the education sector
Ability to commit to 3-5 days per week during after school program hours
A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience working with youth
Proficiency in using computers / electronic systems
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Must pass drug screening and Level 2 background check
