Certified Medical Assistant
Description

Job Purpose: Applies clerical and clinical knowledge to work with patients in an office setting working directly with providers and assisting with patient management as directed by management and/or provider. Answer phones, schedule appointments, verify insurances, collect payment


Job Duties:

1. Demonstrates the primary goal of customer satisfaction through positive interactions with patients, parents, colleagues, and other patient care providers in a respectful, courteous, confidential, and caring manner.

2. Assigns patients to an exam room, prepping patients and providing prompt communication of readiness to providers through electronic medical records, or verbal communication, as necessary.

3. Performs age-appropriate screening for hearing and vision. Demonstrates and performs spirometry appropriate to diagnosis or as ordered by supervisors of the care team (physician/nurse practitioner).

4. Follows policy/procedure to perform, record and report in-house laboratory tests while maintaining universal precautions and infection control precautions.

5. Recognizes changes in patient's physical and mental condition, reports to the supervisors of the care team (physician/nurse practitioner) in a timely manner and takes appropriate action as directed.

6. Assists supervisors of the care team (physician/nurse practitioner) with patient examination, executes orders as directed.

7. Responds promptly and professionally in emergency situations.

8. Prepares and maintains patient chart to meet specifications of documentation and organization, both written and electronic.

9. Maintains safe, clean environment for patient care and assists with general safety and cleanliness of entire office related to patient and staff areas, including kitchen duty.

10. Responsible for stocking supplies and cleaning/preparing rooms and equipment.

11. Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement program activities within the practice setting.

12. Supportive of change and new programs to improve patient care and staff morale.

13. Attends and participates in required in-service and mandatory staff meetings for continuous quality improvement.

14. Performs as a team to effectively and efficiently complete all tasks related to patient care.

15. Participates on care teams and in quality improvement initiatives based on the needs of the practice.

16. Performs other tasks as assigned or directed by supervisor, management and/or providers.

Requirements

Qualifications:

1. Minimum high school diploma or equivalency. Medical assistant certification required.

2. Minimum of one year office experience preferred.

3. Current CPR certification or update required.

4. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to use a high level of diplomacy, sensitivity, and compassion both verbally and in writing to achieve the desired result.

5. Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise judgment in decision-making regarding policy and sequence of work.

6. Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain patience in difficult and stressful situations.

7. Ability to adapt easily and readily to change.

8. Be cognizant of personal responsibility relative to financial implications and cost efficiency for the practice.

9. Basic computer literacy, Medent knowledge preferred. Must possess willingness and ability to learn technological advancements, such as those associated with medical record use.


Physical Demands/Work Environment:

1. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to walk, stand and sit for extended periods. Includes but is not limited to bending, squatting, reaching, and carrying. The employee must be able to lift, pull and bend or assist to physically restrain a combative patient. Employee is required to talk and hear through direct patient contact and telephone conversation. Requires close vision work with computer and keyboard entry.

2. Well lit, secure, controlled temperature environment with noise level quiet to moderate.

Tasks may involve exposure risk to blood and bodily fluids. Must observe guidelines to guard against disease, accidental needle sticks and exposure to instrument sterilizing chemicals.
