Job Description: To process, embed, cut, and stain human tissue. Staining includes routine and special stains. This job profile may require call subject to the department's discretion. Ability to properly orient, embed, and cut tissue using microtome and cryostat, understanding of tissue processing.
Responsibilities:
- Orients and embeds tissue in paraffin per standardized methods. Freezes, orients, embeds, and cuts fresh tissue. Uses microtome and/or cryostat to perform microtomy on tissue specimens to exacting measures of acceptability.
- Files cassettes.
- Performs routine and special stains.
- Labels and distributes slides to pathologists. Files slides.
- Performs and documents equipment maintenance and quality control measures.
- Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

Education and Experience: Associate's degree with histology experience or trained on-the-job as a Histotechnician in a histology laboratory OR completion of an
accredited Histotech Program or experience within the last five years in all the following areas of histology:

Processing
Staining
