Job Goals:

  • Oversee the High School Cheer Program and pipeline (Middle School).
  • Inspire, guide, and mentor student-athletes.
  • Build relationships with and a willingness to coach both beginners and advanced student-athletes.
  • Instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence and good sportsmanship.
Requirements

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Develop, monitor, supervise, and train student-athletes to cheer and uplift crowd.
  • Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and skills development.
  • Cooperate in a timely manner, with the School Athletic Office and the District Athletic Department, in regard to pertinent information that might be required.
  • Meet all requirements set forth by the District Board of Education, IHSAA, and The Indiana  Department of Education relative to the mandated Coaches Tool Chest Trainings/Certification and Pupil Activity Permit.
  • Follow Rooted's Policy as outlined in Coaches Handbook. 
  • Check the status of academic eligibility for all prospective student-athletes.
  • Begin pre-season practice on the first day permitted for the sport.
  • Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes, including timeliness to practices, being positive and enthusiastic, being respectful, and practicing constructive criticism while upholding the disciples of the program.
  • Set a positive example at all times while with student-athletes, be appropriately dressed at all practices and games, and develop respect through his/her example in appearance, behavior, language, and conduct at all times.
  • Maintain suitable sideline conduct, including the use of appropriate language, at all times.
  • Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
  • Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve performances and coaching.
  • Participate in Schools Event (i.e., Awards Programs, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc).
  • Show physical vitality and enthusiasm for the sport and use good judgment.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Ensure that team is well prepared for opponents.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.

Skills/Essential Functions:

  • Fundraising experience.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of skills associated with this activity.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Tumbling experience desired.

Trainings/Certifications:

  • Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and/or college. Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the high school or college level is desired.
  • Provide a satisfactory result on a Police Records, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check. Possess an Indiana Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit. Provide satisfactory completion of Coaches Tool Chest Trainings/Certification.
