Seasonal Staff - Camp Mary Elizabeth 

Located in Spartanburg, SC - day camp and outdoor pool facilities. 

Training Dates: May 18 - 19, 2024; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

Work Dates: June 3, 2024, through July 27, 2024 (8 weeks) 

Schedule: Monday – Friday; TIME TIME  

Various Saturdays; TIME TIME 

Maximum 30 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Lifeguard will assist the Camp Director in ensuring the safety of guests by supervising swimmers and they will aim to prevent and respond to emergencies at Camp Mary Elizabeth’s pool.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS  

  • No prior Girl Scout experience required to apply.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent required (advanced education or college preferred).
  • Successful reference check, drug screen and background check. 
  • Current certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED. (Recertification training available upon hire). 
  • Prior experience and certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED. 
  • Ability and willingness to work in a rustic outdoor environment. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to make independent decisions; interact effectively with staff and volunteers; and work well with children.  
  • Upon hire, must hold personal membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of  the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
  • Must have personal transportation and the ability to drive. Must possess a valid driver’s license, maintain personal auto insurance which meets the council insurance company’s requirement for coverage.
  • Individuals who are Bilingual (Spanish) are encouraged to apply. 
  • Assists in the smooth functioning of summer camp by performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Positioned to see entire pool area with lifeguard tube on lap or holding while standing. 
  • Is in proper uniform (one-piece suit or shorts, rescue fanny pack, and whistle). 
  • Helps get the pool set up for aquatic activities, including moving lane lines and aqua equipment. 
  • Manage aquatic staff’s weekly schedules, assignments, responsibilities and time-off. 
  • Supervises aquatic staff, clearly communicating performance expectations. 
  • Maintains health and safety standards for campers, staff, and self. Ensures that well-equipped first aid kits are maintained and available. 
  • Assumes responsibility for the care and use of pool, aquatics buildings, lifesaving equipment, and other supplies/equipment used. 
  • Reports accidents and files incident reports promptly. 
  • Ensures the aquatics facility is maintained in a safe environment. 
  • Enforces rules and regulations in a safe and fair manner. 
  • Completes cleaning sheet assignment and is proactive in maintaining a clean aquatic facility. 

ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Activities occur both inside and outside with employee subject to both environmental conditions to include fluctuating weather conditions (hot, cold, windy, etc.) as well as outdoor exposure to variety of vegetation and wildlife.
  • Exposure to pool chemicals and chlorine fumes expected at all times during shifts.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, work with fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to perform light work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS

The maximum pay rate for this position is $17.00 hourly with experience and related certifications. This is a seasonal position only with no eligibility for benefits.
