Mobile Diesel Technician
Description

The Mobile Diesel Technician position requires high level of proficiency and working knowledge related to medium and heavy-duty maintenance and repairs. The position is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel engines that power buses, trucks, and terminal tractors. Experience and familiarity working with yard trucks, trailers, PMs, brakes, diagnostics, electrical and transport refrigeration.


Compensation: Hourly range from $27-$40/hour -  This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.  

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Perform repairs and inspections on variety of Class 5-8 trucks, such as brakes, tires, wiring etc. at customer locations.
  • Perform basic and routine preventative maintenance on vehicles, along with DOT inspections.
  • Repair/Replace vehicle components.
  • Ensure that Preventative Maintenance (PM) follow-up repairs are approved and completed.
  • Research and procure parts and manage inventory on the service truck.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in timely fashion.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or close to most Standard Repair Times (STD).
  • Take ownership of all aspects of customers' vehicle repair to provide best in-class service.
  • Operate dedicated Service Truck in a safe manner.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or and equivalent combination of education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining diesel engines in a shop, fleet or road side assistance.
  • Mechanical Inspection of Tools, technical understanding, attention to detail, dependability, thoroughness, verbal communication and documentation skills required.
  • Brake certification preferred.
  • ASE certifications preferred.
  • Diesel Engine Technical degree and/or training, preferred.


Accountabilities:

  • Must own and develop personal tools to improve the quantity and quality of repairs.
  • Work in a safe manner
  • Proper paperwork associated s/n, cause, correction, and final inspection.
  • Precise tech write up and completeness.
  • Troubleshoot codes and analyzes symptoms or failures and can correct them
  • Can perform basic failure analysis.
  • Comfortable with electronics.
  • Can separate difference between electronic or mechanical failure.
  • Must be able to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if operating properly
  • Ability to read schematics and familiar with process
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers/iPad/iPhone
  • Engage customers in a professional manner to strengthen the customer relationship.
  • Demonstrates a high level of consistency in performing PM and DOT inspections, along with general diesel vehicle repairs
  • Positivity, adaptability, creativity, energy
