Job Summary


The Aquatics Supervisor furthers the mission of Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains (GSTOP) through Stevens Ranch aquatics programs. The Aquatics Supervisor will supervise and manage the aquatics programming while providing safe, fun, and educational experiences for campers in accordance with GSUSA policies and procedures, American Camp Association (ACA) procedures, and Texas Department of Health requirements under the direction of the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director/Business Manager providing safe. 

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and supervise a safe and fun aquatic program.
  • Train and supervise aquatic program staff.
  • Create and implement aquatic staff scheduling.
  • Manage the physical facilities and equipment of the assigned aquatic area while working directly with the site manager.
  • Effectively communicate regularly with site manager.
  • Teach aquatic staff and monitor aquatic staff on use of all aquatic equipment.
  • Monitor inventory and submit orders for any supply needs timely to ensure timely arrival of supplies so that aquatic programming is not interrupted for campers.
  • Survey aquatic area daily for any hazards, debris, and safety.
  • Work with the Assistant Camp Director/Business Manager on development of aquatic programs, progression of aquatic programming, and any recognitions for aquatics programming for campers.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned and available.
  • Establish and follow appropriate health and safety routines for campers and staff.
  • Prepare, participate, and lead specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp areas. Participate in staff training and meetings.
  • Become familiar with the overall camp program.
  • Maintain area cleanliness according to the Texas Department of Health and GSTOP guidelines.
  • Assist in packing and unpacking all materials and supplies at the beginning and end of the summer camping season.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS - - Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Minimum 21 years of age.  
  • Experience working with children. 
  • Current Lifeguard Certification or ability to obtain one (provided by GSTOP). 
  • Supervisory experience. 
  • Commitment to the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting. 
  • Must be willing to work with all persons without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, or disability. 
  • Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a camp community.  
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. 
  • Verbal fluency, good grammar, and professional appearance. 
  • Must complete and pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, and drug screening.

  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.  
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring aquatic rescue and first aid. 
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
  • Ability and willingness to work outside in all weather conditions, walk long distances and on uneven terrain, stand for extended periods of time, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 
  • Ability and willingness to work in an environment including exposure to environmental allergens including dust, mold, pollen, live birds, insects, and other animals.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 


CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Required valid Lifeguard Certification (will be provided if needed).
