Global Program Lead
Lagos Programs
Description

Are you a change maker, excited about quality and client experience, who wants to play a pivotal role in correcting the vision of millions of low-income customers so they can work, learn, stay safe, and care for their families?

The pioneering social enterprise, VisionSpring, seeks a global lead for See 2 Earn programs to lead the strengthening and expansion of the program. This is our largest program segment as, above all, eyeglasses are a livelihoods intervention. Just when skilled adults are peaking in their abilities – whether they are agricultural, artisan, factory, or cooperative workers – age-related blurry vision jeopardizes their livelihoods and their income. Eyeglasses fix that, enabling adults to maintain their productivity, extend their working years, and continue to care for their families. The global lead will work closely with all the VisionSpring countries (India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda) that are currently running See 2 Earn programs to provide technical support to VisionSpring team members and our implementing partners.

See to Earn in VisionSpring covers 3 programs, Clear Vision Workplaces, Livelihoods in Focus and Community Screening in general.

  • Livelihoods in Focus is a 5-7 year, $70 million effort that will screen and correct the vision of 8.2 million tea, coffee, cocoa and artisan workers and unlock more than $1 billion in extra earnings for workers and their families.
  • The Clear Vision Workplaces program launched in 2018 bringing together leading brands in the apparel, home goods and footwear sectors to screen the vision and provide glasses to factory workers in Bangladesh, India and Vietnam. One in three workers does not have the glasses they need to see clearly. Since starting the CVW program has screened the vision of more than half a million workers and helped more than 200,000 of them see clearly through eyeglasses.
  • Community screenings are all other screenings in communities around the world that target adults to improve their livelihoods (apart from drivers as they will fall under the See to be Save program).

The Global Lead is part of the Global Program Department, this department consists of 4 units, Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL), Quality Assurance and Client Experience, Program Implementation and Innovation. This position is part of the Program Implementation unit and provides technical support to VisionSpring team members in all of our countries, particularly those responsible for the delivery of the See to Earn programs. The Global Lead works hand in hand with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning unit to ground best practices in evidence. The Global Lead is a member of VisionSpring’s Global Program Office and reports to the Global Vice President of Programs (based in Accra).

The Global Lead will preferably be based in any of the countries where VisionSpring is operational with the flexibility of travel to the remaining/other countries. The duties and responsibilities presented below may change and develop as our activities evolve and expand.

About Us

  • VisionSpring is creating access to affordable eyewear, everywhere. Clear vision creates opportunities for increased learning, work, safety, civic participation, and quality of life.
  • As a social enterprise, social change motivates us first. Our focus on sales and revenue targets serves and advances our mission objective—to increase functioning, productivity, and income earning potential for our low-income consumers by correcting refractive errors with eyeglasses.
  • We are working to transform the systemic dysfunction of an optical market that has failed to deliver eyeglasses—a 700-year-old technology—to 1.1 billion consumers in need of vision correction, most of whom live on less than $4 a day.
  • We serve low-income consumers, not as beneficiaries but as customers. Our customers expect a high-quality and affordable product, and they will spend limited discretionary income for the immediate and tangible benefits of vision correction.
  • By selling eyeglasses, we awaken new demand and seed a viable market. By selling new eyeglasses we are able to serve four times as many people per dollar input than the alternative of donating recycled ones. To efficiently scale, we must deliver each new unit with lower cost.
  • We run our business on both sales metrics and social impact measures. We use a range of organizational forms and practices to get the job done.
  • We believe in scaling our impact, not our organization. We are a lean team of doers.
