At Camp Fire Columbia, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to find and pursue their spark– a passion that inspires and drives them to set and achieve goals for their future. Founded in 1910, our comprehensive program starts with early intervention at the elementary level, bridges the learning gap for middle school, and helps students thrive and plan for bright futures during high school. During the school year, Camp Fire works in partnership with dozens of schools in the Metro Area. During the summer months, we offer summer camps in the Portland metro area and at our beautiful 552-acre camp, Camp Namanu, bordered by the vibrant Sandy River and presided over by century old trees. Our programs directly serve over 4,000 kids ages 5-18 each year across an nine-county area, including programming in Clackamas, Multnomah, Yamhill and the greater Portland metro region. Position Overview:

This position is responsible for working as a member of the kitchen staff and assisting the Food Service Manager & Lead Cook to prepare meals, follow health, safety, and any relevant Covid-19 policies, and ensure that camper and staff dietary needs and restrictions are safely met. If living off-site, this role requires regular travel to and from Sandy, Oregon. Full-time season is from mid-February to mid-November with an expected start date of February 26, 2024. This also include working on holidays and occasional weekends as required. Vacation and PTO (other than sick time) can be taken during the off-season between December through the end of January. Positions include an AM shift (Monday-Friday) and a PM shift (Sunday-Thursday). 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. This role will come in contact with campers, families, visitors, vendors, and employees. Each of these persons may have visible and invisible qualities that makes that person unique. 2. Assist in food preparation and serving for each meal including main course, sides, baking, making salads, preparing the serving area for each meal, and filling condiment dispensers.

  • Follow recipes or cooking instructions to support preparation and executing of daily menu items.
  • Set up and/or break down kitchen and serving areas before and after meals.

3. Work with kitchen team to complete inventory, clean work areas including implementation of health, safety, and Covid-19 policies, and other kitchen tasks as needed. This includes: 

  • Unload and stack food and equipment deliveries.
  • Properly store, label, and rotate kitchen stock as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of dishes, kitchen equipment, work stations, and food storage areas. 

Job Duties:

  • Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers, volunteers, families, and contractors; including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Maintain a clean kitchen and food storage areas including but not limited to: wash counters, dishes, sweeps and mops kitchen floors, and other cleaning duties as needed.
  • Unloads and stacks deliveries.
  • Follows schedules set by Kitchen Manager.
  • Follow recipes and cooking instructions
  • Tasks include baking, making salads, preparing the serving area for each meal, and filling condiment dispensers.

Qualifications:

  • Has a High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Basic knife skills and/or willingness to learn new kitchen skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manages time efficiently, move with purpose & urgency, and proactively solve problems.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and follow instructions.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

This position requires a valid Oregon Food Handler’s card, and First Aid & CPR certification.

Temporary limited housing provided when scheduled during programming. Shared rustic housing kitchenette and shared bathroom with limited space.
