POSITION SUMMARY:

The Certified Nurse Assistant will support our Summer Staff and Volunteer Nurses with basic camper care tasks like grooming, dressing, bathing, eating, and exercising. They also assist the nursing staff with medical tasks like taking blood, monitoring vitals with medical equipment and reporting patient behavior and wellbeing to appropriate staff. This position will be in direct care of campers alongside supporting the Medical Team to keep the Depot operations going. This position is a seasonal summer position that will be part of the summer medical team including summer staff nurses and nurse extern. This position will report to the Nursing & Medical Operations Director. Position Dates: May-August. Camp sessions taking place during June & July

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Certified Nurse Assistants provide basic care for campers, working under the direction of the Summer Staff Nurses and Nursing & Medical Operations Director
  • Through collaboration with the Medical Team (Nursing & Medical Operations Director, Medical Director, Clinical Nurse Manager, Summer Staff Nurses, Nurse Extern), Volunteer Physicians/Providers, Volunteer nurses, and Program Camp Staff (Camp Director, Assistant Camp Directors) to ensure that campers are provided with the highest quality of basic care needs.
  • Certified Nurse Assistants will support the basic medical needs and ADLs of their assigned cabin during each camp session.

General Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the cabin nurse, support medication distribution as scheduled/prn to campers.
  • Provide basic support and preparation for procedures as scheduled and as necessary for each camper, including the care of internal and external central lines, dressing changes, G-Tube and other continuous/bolus feeds, urinary catheters, etc.
  • Assist with testing of Covid 19 for campers, staff, and volunteers as needed.
  • Support Nurses with medical oversight, triage and first aid as needed at high-risk activity areas
  • Documentation and record keeping of medical care, including data entry and use of online database and online logbook.
  • Ensuring confidentiality of medical information and medical records at camp
  • Work in partnership with the medical and camp team to provide support education to camp staff and volunteers.
  • Support the volunteer orientation process and preparation as delegated by the Medical Team
  • Serve as an educational resource for staff and volunteers regarding the illnesses and medical needs of their specific campers as well as the growth, development, activities of daily living and special hygiene needs of campers.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to cabin medical volunteers as assigned.

JOB COMPETENCIES:

  • Be able to move items or people. This will require the strength and mobility to push, pull, lift, and carry.
  • Be able to identify emergency situations, either by seeing them happen, hearing cries for help, or hearing the emergency alert siren and bell.
  • Have the strength, endurance, and physical skills to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations, according to written emergency procedures and plans.
  • Be able to demonstrate or participate in camp activities as they supervise and instruct campers: this will require the ability to walk, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, stoop, and stand.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against Covid 19 and comply will all testing requirements throughout the summer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State eligible and current Certified Nursing Assistant qualification

Special Conditions: This is a residential position. Accommodation will be provided for the duration of the contract and meals will be provided while camp is in session.
