About the job:

The Facility Shift Lead is responsible for leading and directing staff, programs and operations at a recreation facility during assigned shifts ensuring that standards and procedures are consistently maintained. 


A day in the life:

  • Oversees the ongoing operations of recreation facility including multiple staff, programs and uses.
  • Provides leadership to all front-line staff working during hours on duty, including directing and assigning work, adjusting work schedules, coaching and providing input on employee performance.
  • Provides ongoing leadership and support to assigned program area(s) which may include training, mentoring, scheduling, directing, assigning and work. Assists supervisor in hiring staff.
  • Adjusts facility schedule and operations to respond to a variety of conditions, including program needs, user load, safety, budget, and environmental conditions. Makes recommendations regarding staffing levels and facility scheduling.
  • Oversees recreation facility operations during assigned shifts, including technical operations such as swimming pools and ice rinks; opens and closes facility; ensures that health and safety standards are maintained; reports maintenance issues.
  • Provides for safety of participants and staff, including implementing risk management practices across multiple staff levels and programs.
  • Addresses public questions and concerns regarding facilities and programs in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Serves as the on-site lead of the Emergency Action Plan, managing response according protocols.
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reports; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Schedule:
This part-time position will fill in on various shifts (opening or closing) as needed at Juniper Swim & Fitness and Larkspur Community Center.  You must be available to work on Saturdays and Sundays, if needed.   


Requirements

What we're looking for:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; two years of college courses in recreation or related field preferred; AND
  2. Two (2) years of experience working in a recreation facility or relevant experience with at least one (1) year team lead experience ; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
  4. Bilingual in English and Spanish Preferred but not required.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

  1. Must possess or obtain within 30 days of hire a First Aid/CPR Certification for the Professional Rescuer.
  2. Must possess or obtain within 30-45 days of hire any specialty certifications/training required by Facility, such as Lifeguard certification or other necessary training for the job.*
  3. Other specialty licenses and certifications may be required depending on facility and program assignment.

*We provide on the job training for Lifeguard.


Supervision Received:
Reports directly to a Facility Supervisor. Follows standard processes and procedures without supervision but confirms changes to standard practices and significant decisions in advance.

Supervision Exercised:
Provides ongoing leadership and direction to all staff working assigned shifts, which may include directing and assigning work, adjusting work schedules, training, coaching and providing recommendations on evaluating performance and developing goals.

Working Conditions:
The following are working conditions, including environmental and physical demands, required for this position.

  • Depending on facility, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include working in extreme weather conditions.
  • Work schedule is varied and includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Some positions require the ability to work a rotating on-call schedule and may require working during off duty hours for emergency call-outs.
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling and kneeling.
  • The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
  • Ability to work and maintain focus in a work environment with moderate noise (i.e., working around others making periodic phone calls or having conversations) and with frequent interruptions.
  • Work includes extensive exposure and contact with staff and public, which may cause exposure to illness.
  • Occasional focus on a computer screen. Manual dexterity and coordination may be required. Daily precise control of fingers and hand movements while operation computer keyboard, telephone, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain sustained concentration on computer screens; use keyboards and a variety of peripherals.
