Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000

Job Summary:


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Helps to implement Community Roots’ communications strategy, which includes administering a monthly editorial calendar, conducting resident and community member interviews, producing general content for website, social media, newsletter, and internal communications. 
  • Develops effective, targeted communications to various stakeholder groups; collects and prioritizes stories of Community Roots’ work and prepares them to be shared on multiple mediums. Drives email campaign creation and timing. 
  • Has a lead role in coordinating the organization’s social media strategy. Monitors and responds to comments and inquires on social media platforms.
  • Works with Community Roots program staff to develop collateral and support their communications needs. Drafts content as needed in support of the Rise Together capital campaign and other special initiatives across the organization.
  • Supports the planning and marketing of events led by Foundation team—including but not limited to fundraisers, groundbreaking celebrations, and building grand openings—by helping to coordinate logistics, creating promotional materials, and ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for attendees.
  • Creates general boilerplate language for marketing and fundraising appeals. Performs research and drafts organizational talking points that reflect carefully considered positioning about a given topic (e.g. a labor strike that impacts housing development timelines). 
  • Works with staff to identify potential media opportunities and stories; helps to prepare copy for press releases.
  • Helps manage organization’s suite of websites. Maintains process documentation and other internal communication tools, trains staff on usage, identifies new opportunities for system improvements and incorporates them into system documentation.
  • Under direction of the Senior Manager of Philanthropy and in collaboration with the Grants & Philanthropy Manager, develops grant proposals and reports for submission to private foundation, corporate, and public funding sources.
  • Under direction of the Senior Manager of Philanthropy, supports fundraising campaigns by drafting content, weighing in on strategy, and executing board committee recommendations.
  • Supports donor acknowledgment and recognition efforts.

 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and compelling storytelling.
  • Commitment to racial and economic diversity, social justice, and affordable housing.
  • Minimum one year of experience in communications, public relations, or journalism. Strong writing and editing skills a must.  
  • Bachelor’s degree OR demonstrated equivalent work experience in a related discipline with a minimum of three years of related experience.
  • Experience generating print and electronic communications, updating web copy and design, and creating public relations messages and collateral. Experience with photography and/or video editing a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and collaborative work environment, demonstrating flexibility and ease in working with diverse teams and individuals, each with unique work styles and perspectives.
  • Excellent computer and technology skills including proficiency with WordPress website management, CRM and email programs, and social media. Experience with analytics, social media tools, marketing, Mailchimp, Wix, and Salesforce a plus.
  • Project management skills.
  • Comfort working across departments and requesting information from executives.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills.
  • Proficiency in researching, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
  • The ability to operate efficiently and gracefully under pressure of deadlines.

Physical Demands: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
