Position Summary

The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Detroit Mercy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Theological Ethics, with specialization in healthcare ethics, to begin August 2024. Special consideration will be given to candidates whose research and teaching interests also include Catholic theology and interreligious dialogue.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates shall have Ph.D. or Th.D. in Religious Studies, Theology, or Ethics. Advanced ABDs will be considered, but must have their Ph.D. or Th.D. completed within one year of hire. The successful candidate will make significant contributions to our undergraduate and graduate curricula, as well as the university Religious Studies Core Curriculum requirement. At the undergraduate level, they will be expected to teach multiple sections of Healthcare Ethics, in addition to topics in their area of specialization. At the graduate level, they will teach courses pertaining to Catholic theology and interreligious dialogue. The teaching load is 18 credit hours (6 courses) per academic year for faculty with an active research agenda.

Strong candidates will have a record of experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching diverse students. Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).


Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
