Description

Optikos is seeking a talented and creative senior mechanical engineer to join our growing business of optical system development. You will join a diverse engineering staff and develop new and cutting-edge products for our customers and for the Optikos product line. 


Our small company atmosphere (80+ employees) is ideal for those engineers who enjoy the full gamut of product development, from conceptualization, modeling and simulation, to prototyping and laboratory testing. You will build the products you design and see them manufactured for use in consumer, industrial, medical, and aerospace applications. Optikos specializes in taking on interesting and challenging projects and we are eager to add talent to our exceptional team!


A successful candidate has a solid foundation of mechanical knowledge and a proven track record of successful precision designs. You must be creative and inquisitive, a quick study, receptive to feedback, and willing to learn on-the-job. Excellent communication skills are mandatory, technical writing samples are encouraged.


Requirements
  • Highly motivated individual with a proven track record (7+ years) of innovative work designing precision mechanisms and/or opto-mechanical assemblies
  • Opto-mechanical experience preferred but not required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; graduate degree is preferred but not required
  • Expert in the use of SolidWorks or similar CAD software
  • Experience with FEA, primarily static, modal, and thermal
  • Enjoys hands-on work in the lab. It is routine to build and test your own designs.
  • Eager to tackle the most challenging mechanical design problems in the company
  • An emerging leader – experience as a technical lead, project lead, and/or working directly with customers
  • Direct experience designing systems incorporating some or all of the following:
    • High precision motorized mechanisms
    • Lens and mirror mounts – large and small
    • Flexures and kinematic mounts
    • Precision engineering techniques
    • Metal castings and/or plastic moldings
    • Designing complex precision instruments for manufacture
