The Strategist uses health-related knowledge and expertise to provide operational support for strategy development and implementation of strategic initiatives. Assisting in the implementation of multiple strategic initiatives, the Strategist demonstrates independent judgement and initiative in their work with internal colleagues and external partners.   

We are seeking candidates with experience in the mental health field and/or in maternal and child health, working directly with community and centering those with lived experience. Applicants with expertise in addressing trauma, stigma, root causes including racism, and promoting healing will be prioritized. The Strategist will report directly to either the VP or Director depending on work and experience in these areas.


  • Collect and communicate information for assigned topic areas about local, state, and national influencers and stakeholders; evidence-based and promising practices; community factors impacting an issue; and current public, private, and philanthropic activity 
  • Provide day-to-day operational support for the development, implementation, assessment, and revision of strategy within assigned initiatives, engaging effectively with internal and external partners 
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate various group processes including meetings, convenings, webinars, etc. with strategic partners and stakeholders 
  • Engage in continuous learning and refinement of strategies, approaches, and structures to meet the evolving needs of communities served, consistent with the goals, values, and principals guiding Foundation work 


  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive knowledge base to inform new and ongoing   Foundation activities for assigned issue areas 
  • Diagnoses issues, identifies promising approaches, analyzes effectiveness of existing tactics, and recommends refinements to support strategy development and improve outcomes 
  • Implements efficient project management processes to ensure initiative plans and updates are developed and shared with Foundation leadership at appropriate times to maintain project momentum and achieve program goals 
  • Proficiently completes day-to-day tasks, supporting successful collaboration with Foundation staff, issue area team members, and community partners 
  • Understands and implements group process tactics to build effective relationships with external partners rooted in trust, transparency, accountability, and clear communication, recognizing that all individuals bring experience and voice to   the work 
  • Identifies   potential partners and appropriately nourishes trusting relationships with community members and organizations critical to the change strategy within assigned issue areas 
  • Listens to the needs and solutions of community partners and serves as a thought partner in collaboration with communities 
  • Identifies and supports systems-level changes necessary for attainment of strategic initiative outcomes 
  • Upholds Foundation’s and strategic initiatives’ practices and efforts to realize MFH’s goal of being a trusted antiracist institution and achieving health equity 



  • Participates in team activities and completes diverse assignments in support of team goals   
  • Performs general Foundation support activities and carries out special projects as required 
  • Adheres to Foundation’s core and staff values and commits to personal growth and learning around these values





Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred. 

Experience: Three (3) or more years of work experience that demonstrates ability to achieve essential outcomes of position.

Starting Salary $62,000 to $69,000
