Position Summary

Under general supervision for routine, scheduled tasks and direct supervision for more complex tasks, inspects, maintains, tests, repairs, installs, and modifies electrical systems and all related equipment, fixtures, wiring, and appliances at the University.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Services a variety of electrical systems and equipment including lighting, alarm, signal, control, and power circuits.
  • Examines and tests distribution panels, controls, circuits, fixtures, and motors to locate malfunctions such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes.
  • Repairs electrical circuits and equipment by replacing faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other components in the electrical system.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on motors, generators, circuits, and other electrical equipment as scheduled.
  • Assists employees and contractors in the installation of machinery and equipment.
  • Fabricates and installs specialized electrical devices and modifies electrical systems as required.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using hand and power tools.
  • Reviews blueprints, construction documents, and diagrams to assist in the planning of modifications or repairs to the electrical and related systems.
  • Maintains the electrical safety program, tests, and inspections.
  • Plans, estimates/quotes, and acquires materials and supplies for jobs.
  • Coordinates work with employees in other classifications.
  • Periodically assists in orienting, training, assigning, and checking the work of employees in lower classifications.
Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications  

High School Diploma or equivalent

   

Preferred Qualifications  

Aerial Lift Certification

   

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Satisfactory knowledge of the principles and practices of the electrical trade.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and construction documents.
  • Ability to train other employees on the electrical trade.
  • Ability to follow, read, and understand, directions, drawings, instructions, manuals, policies, procedures, and schematics.
  • Proficient in using a computer or mobile device to document activities, attendance, events, and occurrences.
  • Knowledge and experience in utilizing tools and equipment safety.

 Physical Requirements

  • Job requires repetitively lifting objects such as equipment, fixtures, materials, supplies, and tools under fifty (50) pounds with frequent bending and stooping and occasionally lifting objects over fifty (50) pounds.
  • Job requires ascending/descending ladders, scaffolds, and stairs, using equipment or machinery, and traversing over or under obstacles all without restriction.

Work Environment

Working conditions vary whether indoors or outdoors, and an employee may be exposed to all weather conditions, high levels of heat and noise, confined spaces, dirt, dust, and smells.


Licenses/Certifications

  • Possession of a valid Electrical Journeyman License from the State of Michigan.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License from the State of Michigan.


Salary/Pay Information

$37.28/hour 


Anticipated Schedule

Monday thru Friday,7:30 am to 3:30 pm
