Solutions Engineering Intern

Department: Solutions Engineering
Location: Westfield, IN or Kansas City, MO
Employment Type: Full-Time

This position will be a contributor in assisting the sales & sales support teams in developing project solutions to deliver to customers. Solutions are to be developed utilizing customer data analysis, site visits, or customer direction with the goal of strengthening customer relationships & providing additional revenue opportunities to the company. Reporting to the Director of Solutions Engineering & the EVP of Sales, the Solutions Engineering Intern will contribute to overall company success while gaining valuable work experience.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the workload assigned by the Director of Solutions Engineering
  • Participate in Solutions Engineering & drafting team training
  • Help ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for delivery of innovative project solutions
  • Assist in developing detailed project plans to monitor and track the progress of each open development project
  • Assist in developing and maintaining comprehensive project documentation
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to develop standard processes for the sales organization to adhere to for efficient & effective delivery to customers
  • Assist in analyzing and reviewing projects after completion to identify improvement opportunities
  • Assist in providing and updating reports on the status of existing projects for the sales management & executive team & participate in ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the process
  • Learn as much as possible regarding all products/systems/offerings within the industry, including systems integration aspects and highly technical, complex solutions
  • Collaborate with the sales team members, other Solutions Development team members & customers to evaluate customer needs, design and present the best solution to the customer
  • Collaborate with sales team members to visit customer sites and interface with appropriate customer contacts
  • Assist in developing and preparing effective proposals for solutions engineering to provide to Accounts/Prospects
  • Assist in managing changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs
  • Participate in successfully managing the relationship with the client and all stakeholders
  • Assist in performing risk management to minimize project risks
  • Participate in internal projects as required

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Highly detail-oriented, ability to manage critical deadlines
  • Ability to multitask effectively & prioritize & execute tasks
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
  • Ability to work through project issues with customers in a timely manner
  • Technically competent and proficient with various software programs:  Excel, Word, Outlook, AutoCAD, SmartSheet
  • Effective written and oral communication skills: In-person meetings, email, phone calls
  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
  • Strong technical aptitude – Ability to become knowledgeable of industry systems including complex integrated systems and components
  • 2 years or more of Industrial Engineering courses or equivalent experience

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Office & field oriented position with some overnight travel to project sites required
  • Overtime will be required when needed
