Reading Interventionist

Atlanta Classical Academy (ACA) seeks a full-time Reading Interventionist responsible for identifying and providing remediation services to struggling readers in K-6th grades. The Reading Interventionist provides direct instruction to students, individually or in small groups, enabling students to develop necessary reading skills including phonemic awareness, sound/symbol relationships, decoding, encoding, fluency, and comprehension. This position would report to the Lower School Principal on ACA’s Atlanta campus. This position starts July 2024. 

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assesses student need for reading support via additional screening methods after poor performance on school-wide universal screener;
  • Establishes goals, creates, and maintains MTSS / RTI Tier plans in APS data system;
  • Forms small groups and coordinates scheduling of interventions with Master Schedule;
  • Delivers data-informed, targeted and prescriptive, multi-sensory interventions;
  • Progress monitors students bi-weekly, maintaining data in DIBELS data system with access to student and class progress reports;
  • Reports student progress to MTSS team;
  • Represents and advocates for student needs throughout MTSS process;
  • Is an integral part of the student success team, communicating with teachers, team members, and parents as necessary and appropriate.

Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from a fully accredited college is required.
  • Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in appropriate educational field at level T-4 or above preferred.
  • Previous experience in classical education is preferred but not required.
  • Trained in Orton-Gillingham Approach or another multisensory research-based approach.
  • 3-5 years experience working with students with dyslexia or general struggling readers.

About Atlanta Classical Academy:

Atlanta Classical Academy is an open-enrollment, public charter school open to students who reside within the Atlanta Public Schools district. The school opened in 2014 with grades K – 8, and has added a grade each year as students have advanced. It is now a K – 12 academy.
