The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Marketing at MeatEater, Inc. provides pivotal leadership in driving awareness, elevation, and purchasing of our company’s family of premiere outdoor brands including MeatEater, First Lite, FHF Gear, Phelps Game Calls, and Dave Smith Decoys. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a strong track record of building strong brand and product-driven storytelling campaigns that fostered successful customer acquisition and built connections with a loyal community. Previous experience in the hunting industry will be prioritized for this role. This role demands an innovative approach in designing and executing programs that fuel awareness and demand for our differentiated, premium products sold throughout multiple distribution channels - with a DTC eCommerce First approach. The SVP of Marketing is instrumental in crafting competitive positioning, distinct branding, and compelling messaging strategies. With a keen eye on underpenetrated markets, this individual will spearhead targeted, high return advertising through all media channels, events, and promotions–while leveraging MeatEater’s unique competitive advantage of its owned & operated media network of TV shows, digital TV channel, podcasts, social media, website, and email newsletters. The role demands meticulous oversight of all promotional campaigns, setting and evaluating performance standards to ensure alignment with business objectives. Central to this role is driving brand growth and potential, leveraging strategic marketing insights and executions. As a key executive team member, the SVP of Marketing plays a vital role in coordinating go-to-market between the company’s product and distribution functions, collaborating closely with other senior leaders to foster initiatives that resonate across our company. Requirements

 

Brand Identity and Position

  • Articulate and refine the MeatEater brand and its owned family of brands (First Lite, Phelps Game Calls, FHF Gear, Dave Smith Decoys) through consumer-focused insights, helping clarify and reinforce each brand’s individual identity and voice while ensuring alignment with the company’s overall strategic goals and vision, and creating synergies across the product portfolio
  • Oversee the management of brand identity and standards across all organizational channels for consistent brand representation
  • Direct and approve the design of creative assets, encompassing website/digital design (in close coordination with ecommerce team), paid marketing, social media content, email marketing, direct mail, retail merchandising (at owned stores and coordinating with wholesale channel partners), trade/consumer show presences, and product packaging designs

Marketing Strategy and Execution

  • Lead the development of annual marketing plans in coordination with brand, product and distribution strategies, supporting key go-to-market milestones
  • Lead PR strategy on behalf of our consumer brands in coordination with head of communications
  • Lead strategy and execution to launch affiliate marketing program
  • Manage and execute marketing calendars (annual, 30 day, 90 day, weekly) with a high degree of collaboration, transparency, and cross-divisional communication; strategically organize and prioritize marketing efforts throughout the year across all channels, including digital performance, TV, direct mail, email, MeatEater media assets/network, social media, MeatEater owned & operated retail, ambassadors, consumer/trade shows and live events, etc.
  • Craft and execute powerful external marketing partnerships that drive awareness and interest in MeatEater brands, forging win/win relationships with both endemic and non-endemic partners
  • Craft comprehensive multi-channel and platform marketing strategies to bolster key initiatives for each brand, including content initiatives and major and minor product launches, in coordination with product, ecommerce, and content teams
  • Embed data-driven insights into each marketing strategy for targeted outreach and optimal return on investment 
  • Proactively identify market opportunities to meet and exceed company Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Deeply understand customer lifecycle marketing, especially within the CRM context, to enhance customer engagement and loyalty
  • Stay at the forefront of marketing innovation, exploring new channels and strategies to maintain MeatEater’s competitive edge

DTC Performance Marketing and Digital Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive digital marketing strategy, focusing on customer acquisition and engagement
  • Drive digital performance, email, and SMS marketing strategy/execution for MeatEater
  • Oversee social media strategy, executed at individual brand levels
  • Drive week-level ecommerce communication and product promotional plans
  • Lead digital-first marketing campaign planning for key seasonal events

Management and Oversight

  • Manage and oversee the marketing budget effectively, including quarterly re-forecasts 
  • Manage an internal creative team, external resources and freelancers to serve broad needs across the product and distribution teams in go-to-market efforts
  • Lead and manage a performance driven culture for direct reports, including performance marketing, email marketing, creative design, and brand
  • Provide central services to brands in the portfolio and empower and coordinate with tactical marketing execution at certain individual brands
  • Assume additional responsibilities as beneficial to MeatEater

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Attract, engage, lead, coach, develop, and retain talent for MeatEater’s marketing team

Education/Training 

  • BA or equivalent 

Experience 

  • Minimum of 12+ years of marketing experience in a relevant industry, ideally in managing marketing across a family of brands
  • Hunting industry knowledge and experience

Specialized Knowledge/Skills 

  • Keen understanding and proficiency in working with customer data & analytics to translate into an effective marketing strategy 
  • Ability to develop and implement multi-channel marketing programs and campaigns 
  • Strong communication and writing skills 
  • Budget management skills and proficiency 
  • Strong collaboration and project management skills to effectively work  across all departments 
  • Passion for and personal experience in hunting, fishing, wild foods cooking, and conservation
