POSITION OVERVIEW: Follow all curriculum requirements provided by Western Technical College, encourage student participation, and lead student discussion to keep them active and engaged in learning. Provide feedback to students and assign grades to their coursework. Assess and monitor individual student performance to ensure students are keeping up with the curriculum and not falling behind. Communicate with students to provide reports and updates through online Teams and/or email. Will hold “Lab Hours” so students can communicate with them at their convenience for tutoring. Track attendance and report absentee students on retention reports weekly.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Grade, exams, assignments, quizzes, and papers within three workdays while providing feedback to each assignment, exam, and quiz. The instructor will be required to post on the announcement several times a week with information to facilitate learning. Meet with Program Director to determine grading criteria.
- Track and records individual and overall grades in multiple formats, spreadsheets, or online learning management systems.
- Virtual Office Hours: The instructor is available to meet with students during lab hours online, Instructor will carry a morning and afternoon 2-hour lab hour for any students needing assistance. Each cohort will have dedicated 2-hour evening lab hours. Lab hours will be on Canvas and documented in the course syllabus. Instructors will provide tutoring sessions on Fridays.
- Turnaround/Feedback on Course Content: Instructors respond within 24 hours, Monday through Friday on student questions such as lecture topics, discussion boards, on-line assignments, uploaded assignments, and outside work.
- Provide and record advising form for any student who does not pass mid-term, and final with a 70% or better and provide tutoring.
- Effective online communication – need to communicate professionally always and when providing feedback on discussion boards to each student, it must be constructive and provoke critical thinking to have ongoing “thread” of discussions with students in the class. “Great job”, “Awesome Answer”, “Superb”, “Nice” are not thought-provoking responses.
- Meet weekly with Instructor and Program Director to discuss assignment and classroom policies.
- Educates and provides training to students in his or her field of expertise using accepted and approved instructional approaches.
- Report any student misconduct, including instances of academic dishonesty to the Program Director as soon as the Instructor has knowledge of such misconduct and address the student’s misconduct.
- Conduct weekly retention outreach to students who have not attended the course or participated in any discussion posts/completed any assignments and submit to Program Director.
- Participate regularly in continuing professional development activities
- Required to keep Canvas course updated.
- Required to keep Campus updated.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Perform other work-related duties that are assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum certificate of completion as a Medical Billing and Coder.
- Certified through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC and/or CCS)
- Four years of experience in the subject field within the last 10 years
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level (preferred).
- Faculty teaching any hybrid distance education courses, or in any of the hybrid programs must demonstrate proficiency in operating computer programs as Word and Excel.
