LOCATION:

Sacramento (hybrid-home and office).


EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Non-Exempt; Regular; Part-time (25 hrs week).


SALARY RANGE

$25.64 hr.

We base salary and position offers on experience and an internal equity analysis.

OFFICE OF CLIENTS’ RIGHTS ADVOCACY 

DRC has a contract with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), State of California, to provide Clients’ Rights Advocacy services for clients of each of the 21 regional centers located statewide. We are a team of zealous advocates and disability generalists who are building a culture of teamwork and working for a world where all disabled people have power, are treated with dignity and respect, and make their own decisions. 


PURPOSE OF THE JOB 

The Clerical Support position provides clerical and administrative support two (2) staff persons from the Office of Clients Rights Advocacy. The position requires providing communication support, as drafting, editing, proofreading documents, note taking and assisting at outreach events.  


This position requires flexibility, as it requires working both remotely, in the office and at outreach events.  In-office days will work from the Disability Rights California downtown Sacramento office, currently located at 1831 K Street, at least two days/week. 


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Support

  • Provide reasonable accommodation assistance to staff with disabilities, including typing, responding to emails and other general office duties. 
  • Copy, file, and data entry for office staff.   
  • Develop, type, transcribe, format, proofread, edit and save documents, correspondence, forms and charts/tables, etc. on multiple platforms.
  • Process incoming/outgoing mail, fax transmittals for various staff.  
  • Creating, editing and retrieving survey results. 
  • Take written or digital notes during in-person and virtual meetings, calls, events, and intakes. 
  • Travel with and provide administrative support when conducting outreach, education, and trainings. 
  • Create all types of documents from dictated content. 
  • Assistance with signing documents.

Administrative/technical support

  • Generate and prepare reports, correspondence, binders, forms, and charts and cross reference data.
  • Tracking information on electronic databases and outreach/intake reporting logs.
  • Preparation of outreach and training materials.
  • Maintain library publications.
  • Accessing/researching information on various platforms.

Other Duties

  • Miscellaneous office errands.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

(Applicants MUST meet EACH of the minimum qualifications to be considered for an interview.) 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus 1 – 2 years related experience or training. 
  • Knowledge of assistive technology software (screen readers and voice to text).
  • Effective written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions, prioritize multiple tasks, work well under pressure and meeting deadlines. 
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail to ensure accuracy. 
  • Extensive experience with Windows-based computer applications including Microsoft Office software such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. 
  • Familiarity with videoconferencing software like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. 
  • Willingness to learn new skills.
  • Experience with preparing all aspects of in-person outreach activities (assembly of training packets, setting up tables/chairs, etc.) at outreach events. 
  • Demonstrated experience, competency, and sensitivity working with people with disabilities and with underserved communities of color.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

(Applicants DO NOT have to meet any of the Desirable Qualifications to be considered for an interview.) 

  • Experience working for non-profit or social service organizations.
  • Life experience as a person with a disability or direct experience as a caregiver of a person with a disability.
  • Experience providing support to individuals with physical and/or visual impairments. 
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively with a variety of organizations and individuals with diverse perspectives, including people with disabilities, administrators, advocacy groups, and the public, and to maintain confidentiality in all matters. 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS 

Occasional travel required. Ability to travel occasionally for activities such as team meetings, training, or outreach activities up to 25% of the time.
