What You’ll Do:

The Firmware Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for developing test documentation, procedure, and executing tests on various products produced by Whisker. Testing responsibilities will cover a combination of firmware, hardware, and mobile app experience and may be conducted manually or automated, depending on the situation.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and prioritizes advanced testing activities, incorporating strategic considerations and liaising with development teams and stakeholders.
  • Works closely with firmware developers to understand product specifications and requirements.
  • Develops comprehensive test procedures and documentation for various products, with an emphasis on leveraging advanced techniques and industry best practices.
  • Designs and implements automated test setups and frameworks, optimizing for scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Executes rigorous testing on firmware and hardware updates, employing advanced white box and black box testing methodologies.
  • Conducts thorough testing of firmware releases to ensure functionality, performance, and reliability and conducts thorough troubleshooting to identify and address weaknesses and problem areas in firmware and hardware systems.
  • Performs regression testing to ensure that previously identified issues have been addressed.
  • Prepares detailed test reports, providing comprehensive analysis and actionable.
  • Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, serving as a subject matter expert and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in testing processes
  • Provides expert support, maintenance, and enhancement of all testing-related activities throughout iterative development and system testing phases
  • Develops and maintains advanced test and programming fixtures, as well as associated software, to support complex factory operations and production testing
  • Will perform additional responsibilities when required 
Requirements

What You’ll Bring:

  • BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 5+ years experience in firmware and hardware QA and testing roles, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and technical expertise
  • Experience conducting end-to-end testing of an entire IoT ecosystem including devices, gateways, and cloud services 
  • Experience with testing the integration of IoT devices with various platforms, mobile apps, and cloud services
  • Experience evaluating the performance of IoT devices under different loads and scenarios
  • Proficiency in automated testing tools and scripting languages for efficient and repetitive testing tasks
  • Proven track record of building and managing automated test environments, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement
  • Extensive hands-on experience with both advanced white box and black box testing techniques, including advanced
  • Experience with Git, Bitbucket, and JIRA
  • Knowledge of programming languages (i.e. C, Java, C#, python, typescript)
  • Knowledge of digital and analog electronics
  • Knowledge utilizing standard lab equipment (DMM, oscilloscopes) 
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Identifies, communicates, and escalates issues
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Maintains confidentiality of proprietary information
  • Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a fast-paced environment with numerous interactions and interruptions
  • A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, and ability to motivate others
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Team Members and colleagues
