2024 Summer Intern
Description

Play On Philly (POP) is a non-profit organization that provides daily, after-school music instruction to over 300 K-12 students, principally those from historically marginalized communities. During the month of July, POP opens its programming to students across the city of Philadelphia for a full-day summer program featuring music and arts programming. Students take a deeper dive into their music-making through choir, music theory, studio classes, and chamber music classes, in addition to exploring other creative outlets such as dance, visual arts and creative writing.

We are seeking multiple Summer Interns for our music camp hosted at Temple’s Boyer College of Music in Philadelphia to help us deliver a memorable, high-quality experience to our students and families.

Job Description

Our Summer Interns will work collaboratively with staff to create a safe, welcoming, and rigorous environment where students can make steady progress on their instruments, music literacy skills, and repertoire while exploring other creative art forms. Interns are paired with Teaching Artists and are given administrative tasks for experiential learning opportunities. Interns are responsible for day-to-day tasks which keep the 3-week summer program running smoothly. Through observation and assisting the Teaching Artists and conductors, Interns gain valuable classroom experience in a supportive environment.

Successful candidates enjoy working with students in grades 1-12 in various capacities, have a passion for music education or social justice, and are interested in learning more about arts administration and non-profit, student-facing work.

This role is supervised by the Community and Teacher Engagement Manager and works in partnership with the Program Coordinators and POP Teaching Artists.

A successful candidate:

  • You are passionate about music education.
  • You are calm under pressure and can exercise good judgement in stressful situations.
  • You have interest and/or experience working with children and youth.
  • You are excited to serve a community through music.
Requirements

  • You are an undergraduate student interested in education, music education, and social justice (regardless of major).

Proficiency on a musical instrument and/or knowledge of choral singing or piano accompaniment is helpful but not required.
