Description

SUMMARY

The Thrift Store Assistant reports to the Thrift Store Manager and is responsible for moving furniture and large donations and providing general services related to the satisfactory operation of the parish thrift store.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Actively promotes the vision and mission of the Thrift Store to customers and volunteers.
  • Greets customers and ascertains what each customer wants or needs. 
  • Assists customers with loading and unloading of furniture and other large donations.
  • Describes merchandise and explains use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers. 
  • Recommends, selects, and helps locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires. 
  • Computes sales prices, total purchases and receives and processes cash or credit payment. 
  • Answers questions regarding the store and its merchandise. 
  • Helps organize and maintain inventory to ensure store is well stocked. 
  • Helps to maintain a clean, attractive, and safe environment.
  • Drives for the store as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

CATHOLIC FAITH

Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent. Basic mathematical abilities, including the ability to add, subtract, divide, multiply, and tabulate figures.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent organizational skills are required. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Strong teamwork skills required. Excellent time management skills required.


WORKING CONDITIONS

The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.  This is a labor-intensive position


PHYSICAL and SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

This position frequently requires  moving furniture and other large donations, stocking shelves, organizing donations, and keeping the store in customer-ready condition. This position also requires the ability to freely access all areas of the store including the selling floor, stock area, and register area. Operate and use all equipment necessary to run the store. Climb ladders. Move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing 50-200 pounds.
