PURPOSE STATEMENT


The student Practical Nurse, under the supervision of their preceptor and Clinic Manager, is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. 


Program Requirements

  • Completion of the TEAs testing with a score of 58% or greater.
  • Participates in the WACC LPN program offered by Warrensburg R6 School district.
  • After completion of program and licensure is obtained, the LPN must complete 3 years of employment at Western Missouri Medical Center or its clinics. 
  • Successfully passes licensure after completion of the program.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Working in a clinic or hospital unit at least 1 day a month, more if desired.

Clinical Duties

  • Perform selected nursing and administrative duties, to include answering phones/messages and documenting on a laptop. 
  • Takes patients vitals and documents nursing intake once check offs are completed. 
  • Administers medications, gives injections, performs EKG’s, draws blood, assists with examinations/procedures and provides other patient care services as directed once check offs are completed.
  • Maintain sample medication supply, sample medication logs, and purges expired medications.
  • Assists nursing team in maintaining all logs within the nursing area daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Assist patients in setting goals for self-management, teaching them how to do self-management tasks and report abnormal findings to the provider. Assess barriers when patient has not met treatment goals, is not following treatment plan of care, or has not kept important appointments.
  • Ensure adherence to all laws and regulations related to employment, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA and other federal, state and WMMC compliance policies and procedures and promptly reports actual or potential wrongdoing.
  • Assists physicians and nurse practitioners as required.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Prepares and maintains clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure rooms are properly cleaned and stocked.
  • Presents a friendly and welcoming atmosphere to patients.
  • Perform other related work as required.
Requirements

EDUCATION/SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS required within 1 month of hire.
  • Works well in a team made up of people with different backgrounds and skill levels. 
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 12 hours a day.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
  • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
  • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to travel 0-10% of the time, including flying and driving rental cars.
  • To accommodate travel, must be able to transport own suitcases and portable computer estimated at 25 pounds.
