Description

Summary: Responsible for the operation of the plant, working a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Monitor and conduct area activities by following relevant plant procedures and instructions from area supervisor.
  • Monitors, controls, and records plant operations.
  • Samples, tests, and records process streams as required by the QA program and procedures.
  • Conduct activities to comply with plant safety and environmental policies, to meet Quality Control requirements and to meet business demand.
  • Monitor use of inhibitors and process supplies to comply with operational targets.
  • Assist with preparations for day shift maintenance activities.
  • Conduct area housekeeping to meet plant standards. Safeguard the area of responsibility and improve housekeeping practices.
  • Evaluate safety, environmental and quality policies and suggest modifications as necessary.
  • Proactively participate in the on-line training courses and refresh the understanding of regulatory requirements.
  • Be a team player to support fellow co-workers.
  • Be diligent and truthful when filling out logs and worksheets.
  • Constructively support plant management’s vision to improve plant operations.
  • Follow plant EHS policies and/or DOT regulations and maintain personal hygiene standards.
  • Provide suggestions to area Leadman for area operational improvement.
  • Participates in safety, health and environmental programs.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when needed.

Schedule:

  • 12-hour shifts alternating between days and nights.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50#.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations of up to 75 feet.

Working Environment:

  • The employee is regularly exposed to dusty conditions.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to high noise environments.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather in all conditions.
  • The employee will regularly be exposed to chemicals used in the process.

Required education, knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Minimum high school degree. Two-year community college certificate preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in chemical plant operations. A certificate for Chemical Plant Technician training can be substituted for experience requirement.
  • Good working familiarity handling hazardous materials.
  • Good understanding of plant procedures relating to OSHA, EPA and other regulations that require compliance for plant operations.
  • Training in Emergency Response, First Aid, Hazardous Waste handling and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of plant organization.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Simple reading and writing skills.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to compute decimals and percentages are required.
  • Must have the ability to learn and work effectively with the plant’s Distributed Control System (DCS).
  • Good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting abilities.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
