Description

SUMMARY: This seasonal position will be based in Healdsburg and mainly focused on our Sonoma County vineyards with the opportunity to visit our Anderson Valley and Napa Valley vineyards. The viticulture interns will work closely with our Viticulture Technician and Viticulturist to help with in-field work to further improve quality of farming practices and wine grapes. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Work with Viticulture Technician and Viticulturist to scout vineyards, primarily in Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley. Time spent in Anderson Valley and Napa Valley vineyards possibly as well.

Assist with data collection including (but not limited to), shoot length measurements, stomatal conductance, phenological dates, crop estimates, and experimental data

Assist with sampling for tissue and soil nutritional analysis

Assist with sampling and processing for berry maturity analysis

Work with Viticulture Technician to manage data in AgCode and Excel

Other duties and projects as directed by manager


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Interest in viticulture. Basic understanding, experience, or education in Viticulture and/or Enology preferred. 

Valid CA Driver’s License and clean DMV record.

Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Good communication skills.

Must be able to work long hours and in variable weather conditions.

Must be flexible with schedule; will be required to begin work during pre-dawn hours or Saturdays occasionally throughout season and harvest as needed.

Curious, passionate, enthusiastic, focused, creative, and a positive outlook. 

Able to work both in a team and independently.

Computer literacy required.

Commitment to maintaining and increasing safety standards as a high priority in the vineyard and workplace.

Ability to perform the physical labor necessary.

Commitment to excellence and high standards.

Requirements

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

Regularly required to drive to multiple vineyard locations

Walk, kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods of time, frequently on uneven or steep terrain

Lift up to 50 pounds


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is mainly performed in a vineyard. The individual is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles from pesticides and sulfur related to weed spraying and sulfuring.

Noise levels can be moderate to loud

Exposed to outdoor elements; daytime temperatures can range from freezing to hot

Night and early morning work hours may be necessary during frost season with exposure to low temperatures and wind.

Hazards: Occasionally works near moving machinery parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals.
