Description

  

Responsible for producing fixture tooling and product related designs and documentation. Produces drawings and specifications under the direction of the Director of Engineering and in collaboration with other Engineers. Produces designs and modifications of designs for production tooling and fixturing. 

  

Essential Job Functions:

• Utilize the CAD systems as a drafting tool to design detailed drawings of dies, machinery, tools, fixtures, and mechanical devices and produce charts and specifications as directed from written or verbal instructions. Detailed drawings to include tolerances, bill of materials and other engineering data.

• Perform mathematical calculations such as computing percentages to reduce or enlarge drawings, calculating dimensions, angles, tolerance stack ups and curvature of parts.

• Create formal multiple-view assembly, sub-assembly, piece part and layout drawings.

• Utilize reverse engineering practices to model components.

• Provide innovative fixture designs to resolve manufacturing problems, improve product quality or improve production rates.

• Performs 3-D computer modeling and surface generation of tooling for CNC programming and machining.

• Programming of fixtures and gages for the Machine Shop with the potential to expand into other areas of programming.

• Assists all departments in tooling design. Works with Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement and others in trouble-shooting modification and the incorporation of feedback into the CAD/CAM database.

• Assist Engineers and other management or production personnel with engineering document requests and information.

• Work as a team member for product development to provide design expertise for analysis of machining processes and development of tools and fixtures.

• Operate copy machine, plotter and printer. Operation of 3D printing prototype machine will be required to prove out current and past designs.

• Provide engineers with accurate estimates of time required to produce designs and fabricate tooling.

• Maintain the engineering drawing files utilizing the Engineering Change Order (ECO) system to revise and update drawings, maintaining the Drawing Number and ECO Logs.

• Assist in maintaining the accuracy of the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system with regard to Engineering drawings and specifications.

• Work independently or within a team to resolve assigned production tooling or fixture problems.

• Authorize the purchase of parts, tooling, etc. to accomplish focused tasks, or to "farm out" work to outside vendors. Responsible for the purchase of dies, cutters, plates, other materials used in the die-sinking process, as well as the purchase of drafting and other engineering office supplies. 

• Opportunity to learn the process of forging and restrike die design. Forge die design would be a secondary responsibility once learned.

• Opportunities to learn other areas of the department such as robotic programming and troubleshooting.

• Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

Associate Degree with Specialized Technologies in Mechanical Drafting and design with CADD or a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Creo Parametric. 

Knowledge in the Microsoft Office Suite of tools.

Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds or less.
