The Veterans Engagement Specialist (VES) joins a robust workforce development team at Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay on their Mission Advancement team. The VES will play a proactive role in promoting the growth and effectiveness of the program aimed at addressing the employment requirements of the veteran community in the SF Bay Area.


The focus of this role is to establish and cultivate connections with Veterans and their spouses to help them secure better job opportunities and advance into careers by engaging in training and job readiness initiatives, ultimately leading to successful employment and economic stability.

What You Will Do:

  • Initiate, build, and manage relationships with veterans and the spouses of veteran to meet enrollment outcomes for the program.
  • Conduct client assessment and develop individual employment and training plans that address employer needs and job-seeker capabilities which includes resume preparation, interviewing skills, and workplace etiquette.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other service and training providers who can assist participants with supportive services designed to mitigate barriers, enhance employability, and maintain employment.
  • Promote program at employer hiring events, job fairs and community events and partner meetings to recruit for caseload and referral partnerships.
  • Maintain confidential electronic and hard copy case files, document participant progress into Salesforce, prepare employment retention reports.
  • Identify apprenticeships, on-the-job training, and employment-related certifications/licenses leading to self-sufficiency for veterans and their families.
  • Maintain current contact list of organizations providing veteran support within Goodwill’s CRM database(s).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Role:

  •  AA Degree or above and 2-3 years of relevant experience providing community outreach and direct services to Veterans or in the Human Services.
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s License, and reliable transportation to efficiently cover assigned territory.
  • Provide clear and effective communication in public and private settings.
  • Ability to maintain highest levels of confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse group of individuals from a variety of backgrounds, often in need of a second chance.
  • Ability to partner, collaborate, and influence in a team environment.
  • Possess a professional demeanor, including poise under pressure, patience, strong attention to detail, and resilience.
  • Has knowledge of and respect for cultures, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientation, and age groups other than one’s own.
  • Experienced providing support to people with internal and external barriers to employment.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office or G Suite and familiar with social networking platforms, Salesforce or other CRM experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to work onsite out of our SF Headquarters 3 days/week minimum.

Salary Description
