Job Description:

Performs custodial maintenance duties, including the transportation of trash, debris and other disposal materials using a company vehicle (scooter, car, van, and / or truck). Also, the position requires lifting, carrying heavy waste bags, and moving rolling trash bins. Moreover, the position requires assisting dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, wiping / cleaning windows, vacuuming, emptying / removing trash and shampooing carpets, cleaning, and restocking restrooms.


Distinguishing Characteristics:

Position requires a) use of power equipment to buff and restore floors and shampoo carpets; b) regular and routine dusting, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash and cleaning restrooms; and c) routine maintenance to custodial equipment.


This is a Full-Time on Campus position, Monday through Friday with weekends as needed.

Requirements

Requirements & Essential Functions:

  • Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies within various buildings across COTA’s Campus.
  • Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
  • Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
  • Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels; for positions within on-campus and responsible for reporting concerns related to on-campus residents.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Assists in on-the-job training of inexperienced staff on routine procedures.
  • Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
  • May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to supervisor.
  • May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, moving campus signage and other ornament features across COTA’s campus and as well as adjusting and moving furniture, or other similar activities.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Less than high school; no previous experience required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.

Physical Demand & Work Environments:

  • Prolonged standing and/or walking.
  • Lifting and moving moderate weight objects.
  • Using or carrying equipment.
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, lift or crawl. 
  • Reach and grasp objects.
  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skill.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • A work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require the following basic safety precautions.
