Starting Salary: Housing Inspector - $55,824- $66,912 annually ($28.63 -$34.32 per hour), plus benefits

As an EHA Housing Inspector, you will join a team dedicated to ensuring that the housing units that EHA’s program participants live in are healthy, safe, and properly maintained. This position works directly with housing owners, program participants, and EHA staff to ensure that housing units comply with the federal inspections protocols and EHA policy. This position will work collaboratively with the inspections team to continuously improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide seamless customer service. 


The ideal candidate will care deeply about our mission and will be a self-starter, exercise independent judgement, learn and explain complex technical requirements, and excel at working with people to resolve disputes. This is fast-paced work applying technical knowledge of a federal program, and the position requires frequent driving within Snohomish County during regular business hours and in a variety of weather conditions.

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


EDUCATION:

High school diploma plus two years college or vocational/technical school, OR may substitute an additional two years of relevant work experience for the two years of college or vocational/technical school. During 6-month probationary period, Nan McKay HQS and/or NSPIRE certification will be required.


EXPERIENCE:

Five years work experience in housing construction, maintenance, property management, or housing program administration, or related fields, including two years experience in building inspections, construction, property management or in a technical trade such as plumbing, electrical, or HVAC. Other combinations of relevant experience and education may be substituted.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE OF/SKILL IN:

  • Skill in reading, comprehending, interpreting and explaining complicated regulations
  • Keyboarding Skills
  • Skill in interpreting housing quality standards and inspecting housing units to determine if standards are met
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Performing comparability assessments, rent reasonableness

REQUIRED ABILITY TO:

  • Speak, read, write and understand English, and follow oral and written directions.
  • Work with people effectively to resolve disputes and to explain housing requirements.
  • Exercise independent judgment within organizational guidelines
  • Read, comprehend and explain complex technical and narrative documents relating to HUD’s housing quality standards.
  • Ability to drive safely in inclement weather conditions
  • Ability to walk safely in inclement weather conditions and on uneven ground
  • Ability to use a tablet in the field
