The Denver Waldorf School is looking for a College Guidance Counselor to begin in the 2024-25 school year. The College Guidance Counselor at The Denver Waldorf School is a member of the high school faculty and works with students in 9th-12th grades. The College Counselor is a part of a group of individuals whose foundation in pedagogy is Anthroposophy. As a member of the high school faculty the individual is expected to share the vision of working as a servant leader, creating an environment of stability in a rhythmic, balanced, healthful way such that the school is able to fulfill its mission.
Communication and Relationships:
- Communicate with college admissions and financial aid departments.
- Communicate with students about upcoming events, scholarships, needed reports, essays, etc.
- Communicate with parents about events, referrals, pertinent information, opportunities, etc.
- Maintain working relationships with various colleges, universities, and programs that support volunteering, internships, gap years, trades, and coordinate visits.
- Maintain strong relationships with a diverse student body and understanding where/how they might find success and meaning.
- Partner with outside organizations to strengthen community outreach and student connections.
Students:
- Develop programs to teach students and parents about the college admissions and next steps process.
- Maintain class time with students around college counseling.
- Teach electives.
- Hold students accountable to deadlines.
- Assess students’ academic progress to meet requirements of specific colleges and alternate programs.
- Assisting students with finding out about scholarships and other supportive programs.
- Providing students with knowledge of gap year programs, trades, and well fit colleges.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Class sponsor of one high school grade to create a healthy community.
- Class trip chaperone - attend overnight class trip.
- Club sponsor as needed.
- Participate in family/teacher conferences.
- Coordinate exchange program.
Working Hours: The work schedule requires the employee to be at the school each day for the time necessary to accomplish instruction and responsibilities assigned thoroughly. At a minimum, full-time high school colleagues are expected to be available to the school Monday through Friday during the school day beginning at 7:45-3:45, and to assist with morning arrival, dismissal monitoring, after-school student support and, and attend after-school meetings.
