Overview:
Personal Trainers are responsible for instructing members and guests on an individual/personal level using up-to-date techniques and methods to ensure proper use of free weights, cardio equipment, machines, strength equipment, group fitness weights, and other methods of exercise and equipment. They provide members and clients/guests with the highest level of professionalism and dedication through consistent development of relationships and programming. PTs also provide clients with workout routines consistent with their goals and help develop healthy habits. They are dedicated to customer service, developing a personal/team rapport with members and motivate them to participate in the York JCC’s programs. Personal Trainers report to the Personal Training Manager.
General Responsibilities:
· Take a proactive approach to client/member retention by developing solid relationships and serving each Member/Team above and beyond expectations
· Document Member/Department information accurately, neatly, completely and in a timely manner
· Follow agency protocol for greeting, goal setting, health history, assessments, program design and documentation
· Know and understand all Emergency Policies and Procedures
· Develop/Follow safe and effective exercise programs utilizing progression; programs are consistent with client’s goals/needs.
· Give clear, concise instruction before and during activity.
· Consistently offer the highest level of personalized member service while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic and helpful attitude
· Respond to member's concerns, suggestions and complaints in a timely, professional and consistent manner
· If you are unable to resolve the issue, please communicate the issue to your supervisor
· Ability to represent the York JCC at offsite locations, health fairs/wellness fairs
· Provide excellent customer service to JCC members, guests, and staff by adhering to the JCC Employee Code of Conduct and Staff Code of Caring.
· Keep accurate hours through Paylocity; clock in/clock out before and after each shift and through other tracking tools provided by the York JCC (Google Timesheet and System Redemptions)
· Attend regularly scheduled meeting for All Staff, Fitness Department and with Management.
· All other duties as assigned and respond to communication regarding the York JCC within 48 hours. Read email regularly (check it at least once a day)
· Participate in York JCC Onboarding Programs subject to client demand
Performance Expectations:
- Maintain a training load consistent with goals established with Personal Training Manager or actively pursue/work towards said goals
- Requires a wide range of constant physical activities, including but not limited to: sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, pushing, pulling and reaching
- Frequent repetitive movements
- Frequent movement, lifting (min of 30lbs) or carrying of weights in accordance with member’s abilities
- Frequent use and demonstration of fitness machines and equipment as applicable in the Fitness Center
- Continuous exposure to moderate noise
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Must have High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred B.S. in a Health and Fitness related field
- Preferred A.F.P.A., ACE, Cooper Institute, ISSA, N.A.S.M., N.S.C.A, A.C.S.M., or A.F.A.A. or other Personal Training Credentials (to be reviewed and approved)
- Current CPR/AED Certification, First Aid preferred (not required) and maintained
- Practical experience in the field. At least six months’ previous experience in the Fitness Industry and as a Personal Trainer, or mentoring offered onsite at the York JCC
- Flexible schedule
- Willingness to be an active community member at the York JCC
- Sales experience preferred
