Kula Bio is a leader in sustainable nitrogen solutions, helping farmers improve crop yield and reduce environmental impact. We make a cost-competitive biofertilizer that boosts a naturally occurring process to deposit meaningful amounts of nitrogen in the soil.


As the Process Engineer in the Manufacturing Technology Department, you will provide support by performing fermentation experiments, process development and validation, technology transfer and assist team members in day-to-day microbial lab activities. You will be closely working with the Manufacturing Science Department and the Production Department to ensure our product quality.


On a regular day, you will work on process development and optimization, as well as process metrics, analyzing data, preparing and presenting reports, writing and revising validation documentation, SOPs, batch records and data records. In addition, you will design experiments, calibrate instruments regularly, troubleshooting methods as well as instruments, and prepare microbiological growth media.


To thrive in this role, you are proficient in aseptic techniques (BSL1 and BSL2) for microbial growth and testing, in working with and around microorganisms. You understand the fundamentals of scale-up and scale down and have experience with bioreactor set-up and commissioning. You understand how to handle and grow aerobic microbes and are experienced with standard microbiological methods including media and plating, serial dilution, viable cell counting, microbial screening, microbial enumeration and staining. You are proactive and comfortable with performing repetitive tasks, and have the ability to work autonomously but enjoy helping others learn in the meantime.

Requirements
  • B.S. in Microbiology, Environmental Biology, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemical engineering, bioengineering or other related fields.
  • DOT/RCRA certification
  • 3-4 years of industry experience with kLa
  • 3-4 years of industry experience operating 1L-100L fermenters
  • 3-4 years of industry experience with IQOQPQ /Process Validation
  • 3-4 years of industry experience with DOE and statistical data analysis
  • Prior experience with analytical chromatographic methods such as LC-MS, GC-MS, or other methods preferred
  • Prior experience in molecular biological techniques including DNA extractions, sequencing, running gels, PCR methods including quantitative PCR preferred

  • This position requires the ability to sit, talk, and hear; occasionally walk and stand; regularly use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; constantly reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift and/or moves up to 50 pounds at a time; regularly use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus
  • Work in the manufacturing plant may require hearing protection
  • Working in the manufacturing plant will require the use of PPE

$100,000 - $105,000
