  • you are willing to learn new material in genetics/genetics counseling while supporting our team of Genetic Counselors (GCs).
Requirements

Position Summary: 

Our Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) will report directly to the Director, Genetic Counseling Assistant or GCA Lead and will work closely with other members of the GCA team. In addition, the GCA will look to ensure outstanding provider interactions and patient care by partnering with Genetic Counselors (GC) and GC Team leads.


Some of your responsibilities and essential duties may include:

  • Prepare genetic counseling summary reports for appointments with our genetic counseling team.
  • Ensure appropriate documents needed for consultations are collected prior to the consultation in accordance with existing policies/procedures.
  • Create and/or review pedigrees for pertinent details for note preparation. 
  • Review consultation documentation to order the requested genetic testing.
  • Review consultation documentation to complete Prior Authorization (PA) documents and process, as necessary.
  • Contact patients to disclose non-actionable test results, where applicable, in support of genetic counseling team
  • Triage non-patient inquiries to appropriate departments.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication to support internal and external collaboration.
  • Facilitate responses to patient/partner questions about visit or testing status as needed/appropriate based on communication from the Support Team.
  • Facilitate communication to patients as requested/appropriate from the genetic counseling team. 
  • Act on behalf of the patient to provide support with appropriate escalation of scenarios as indicated.
  • Additional responsibilities as they relate to the position and needs of the department.

Hours:

  • 40 hours per week with flexibility for some weekend coverage (approx. 4-5 hours, 1 Saturday per month)
  • Time during the week will be adjusted so that the total does not exceed 40 hours per week.
  • Hours available are 12-8pm EST/9-5 PST 


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in genetics, biology, psychology, or related fields required and 0-3 years of experience in genetics counseling or other clinical work is preferred.
  • Understanding of the specifications of a HIPAA compliant environment to be able to deliver quality care as a customer advocate is preferable. 
  • Strong organizational skills to facilitate information, meet set expectations and execute accurate completion of all required procedures.
  • Quick learner who is comfortable working in a dynamic role and open to continuous growth and evolution of responsibilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills that will be showcased in a team-based, remote environment.
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written and listening) skills and able to collaboratively engage with all customers, patients, and teammates. 
  • As a remote position, candidate will be required to communicate regularly on instant messaging platforms and video calls. Proficiency with Slack, Zoom, or Google Meets a plus.
  • Familiarity with pedigree drawing (by hand or with programs) a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency in various applications such as Google Suite, Zoom and Pedigree drawing software and able to work across multiple technology platforms at the same time. 


Preferred Qualifications

  • The ability to speak additional languages is beneficial, but not required.
