Description

Colorado TU is seeking a college student involved with one of the TU Costa 5 Rivers in Colorado to serve as a Trout in the Classroom (TIC) Seasonal Worker. The 5 Rivers program is a nationwide network of college fly fishing clubs that seeks to empower the next generation of conservation focused anglers. This season position is an opportunity to to just that.


The TIC Seasonal Worker will report to the CTU Youth Education Coordinator and work closely with the volunteer TIC Statewide Coordinator. They will play a key role in the overall success of the TIC program in Colorado, by helping TIC educators, volunteers and chapter leaders learn, prepare for, and understand the processes, equipment, maintenance, and overall operation of the TIC program. The TIC program in Colorado currently reaches more than 13,000 students, educators and community members with more than 50 schools/sites currently participating and several others on the program waiting list.


The TIC Seasonal Worker will help create, promote, develop and deliver TIC trainings over the summer of 2024 including:

  • Help develop curriculum for the 2024 TIC Training for TIC Educators, Volunteers and Chapter Leaders;
  • Organize and lead the 2024 TIC Training team; and
  • Assist teachers in training TIC team leads as needed.

This position is seasonal running from mid-May through mid-August, part time (20 hrs/week) and will not be benefit eligible. Travel costs associated with the position will be reimbursed under Colorado TU's travel policies.

Requirements
  • Engaged in undergraduate or graduate studies in a science/education related field. Preference will be for a biology or fisheries major with K-12 education interests.
  • Must have access to transportation and be able to travel to the geographic area of responsibility, all within the State of Colorado.
  • Good interpersonal skills with all ages.
  • Good internet skills and basic technology skills with scientific field equipment and methodology.
  • Responsible and aware of K-12 security issues, including the ability to pass a background check if engaging directly with youth.
  • Motivation and ability to work independently.

Ideal candidate skills may also include:

  • An appreciation of K-12 teaching challenges.
  • Knowledge of and/or previous experience in educational training development and execution.
  • Knowledge of and/or previous experience with the TIC program and/or tank maintenance, hatchery, raising fish, and water chemistry.
  • Capability to work from home or remotely.
Salary Description
$18.29/hour
