Operations Manager (Convention Center) - Full Time

Description

Under general supervision of the Assistant General Manager, coordinate, supervise, and manage personnel, subcontractors, and the daily activities involved in the successful execution of events and maintenance of the facility by performing the following duties personally and through subordinate supervisors.

  • Manage, supervise, and schedule all aspects of operations including, operations crew, housekeeping lead, ADA compliance, and work cooperatively with the operations of the catering company to assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events.
  • Manage subordinate supervisors who oversee employees in various functions. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Review, implement and train employees on the operating procedures, preventive maintenance schedules, emergency plans, and safety/risk management policies that conform to corporate standards.
  • Review contracts, speak with tenants, and work with subcontractors to determine special requirements. 
  • Inspect conversions, set-up, and installation progress to ensure conformance to established specifications.
  • Examine the cleanliness of the facilities, equipment, and operations areas including spectator and public areas for general repairs, updates, and replacements.
  • Act as a liaison between unions, tenants and facility contractors as needed.
  • Plan, budget, and schedule facility modifications including cost estimates, bid sheets, layouts and contracts for construction and conversions.
  • Submit recommendations for operating, capital maintenance, and capital equipment budgets. By direction track budget for expenditures in compliance with operational goals. 
  • Confer with other departments to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve operational problems and complaints. Conduct periodic staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems, and policy changes.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings. Develop and maintain a harmonious working relationship with all of the other departments. 
  • Rotate with other facility personnel to function as Manager on Duty (MOD), who maintains total responsibility and authority over all clients, employees, security, and safety in assigned buildings. Responsibilities include but not limited to making sure contractual agreements are met and clients’ event requirements and changes have been made in a timely fashion. On-duty employees and subcontractors ultimately report to the MOD through any managers or supervisors who are present during the event.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Skills and Abilities

Position requires the ability to:

  • Must have a working knowledge of event conversion/housekeeping procedures relating to a commercial facility.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility. 
  • Possess skills and experience in labor relations, purchasing procedures and supervising/training personnel.
  • Engage in much decision making that is generally governed by procedure and guided by policy.
  • Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state, or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility.
  • Read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and other related materials.
  • Meet the physical demands of the job, which include being able to get in and around the facility (requires personal mobility) and working from various heights. Must perform strenuous physical duties at times, including lifting, carrying, moving, and climbing. 
  • Be able to withstand moderate to loud noises.
  • Operate equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, boom lifts, scrubbing machines or other light power-driven equipment.
  • Operate a personal computer using Windows and Microsoft Office software.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with other in both oral and written form.
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. 
  • Clearly demonstrated ability at problem solving, planning, organizing, and logistics.
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
  • Work as a team member as well as independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, guests, employees, and others encountered in the course of employment.
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of Georgia.

Education and Experience

Associate degree or higher from an accredited college/university or trade school and four years related experience and/or training in the public assembly industry in a supervisory or management position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Being able to communicate in Spanish is beneficial.
