NEBRASKA CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FOUNDATION:

Nebraska Children and Families Foundation (NCFF) is a nonprofit created to support children, young adults, and families with the overall goal of giving our state's children what they need to thrive. We do this by building strong communities that support families. Our mission is to create positive change for Nebraska’s children through community engagement and we believe in a Nebraska where all children will have the resources and support to thrive.

SUMMARY

Nebraska Children and Families Foundation seeks a Python/Django developer and SQL database administrator to help us manage our growing data lifecycle needs. If you are a technology enthusiast who enjoys developing web applications, tuning databases for optimal performance, and automating data pipelines, we think you’ll enjoy being a member of our team.

For over 25 years, NCFF has been using evidence-based and evidence-informed practices to help children, young adults, and families thrive. We partner with community-based organizations and government agencies to serve some of the state's most vulnerable populations. Data plays a key role in understanding the needs of those we serve and demonstrating the impact our programs and initiatives have.

As the Digital Solutions & Data Management Specialist, you will manage every stage of the data lifecycle from creation & capture to deletion. You will use Django to build data capture web apps, write scripts to automate the flow of data, work closely with our Research & Evaluation team to automate the data query and preparation process to meet their needs and help design & manage our data warehouse infrastructure to ensure data integrity and accessibility for cross-system data sharing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Django Web Application Development: We try to use existing and off-the-shelf data collection solutions as much as possible; however, sometimes, nothing meets our needs. When that is the case, you’ll work closely with our AVP of Operations & IT Solutions to develop a custom-built solution.
  • Data Storage & Warehousing: We collect data in multiple management information systems and receive data from many partners. You will ensure that data integrity is maintained as it moves between systems, that data is transferred securely, and that only appropriate people have access to the data.
  • Data Preparation Automation: You will write the SQL queries and necessary scripts to automate data preparation as it goes into a data warehouse.
  • Systems Administration: You will be the primary system administrator for the Ubuntu servers and database cluster that supports our data operations.

EQUITY AND DIVERSITY:

Commit to and actively work toward equity, diversity, and inclusivity in all aspects of duties related to staff, internal and external stakeholders, contractors, consultants, trainers, and external agencies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None to start.

WORK DIRECTION RECEIVED: Works with minimal direction.

SCOPE/NATURE OF DISCRETION: Delegated discretion; authority to initiate and carry out actions that are deemed essential.
