Duties & Responsibilities

 As an Image Signal Processing Expert with a focus on Laparoscope, major responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing the overall architecture of the Image Signal Processing (ISP) algorithms within the laparoscopic imaging system, decomposing the algorithm pipeline, defining the specification of image performance, and conducting image evaluations and final QA.
  • Enhancing the quality of laparoscopic images by improving their clarity, contrast, and color accuracy. This involves integrating clinical requirements to upgrade the quality and visual information of endoscopic images during surgical procedures.
  • Working in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including system engineers and medical professionals, to ensure that the developed image processing algorithms align with clinical demands and hardware limitations.
  • Staying abreast of advancements in image processing technology and algorithms to evaluate their applicability in enhancing the laparoscopic ISP system.
  • Overseeing the integration and fine-tuning of algorithms, focusing on optimizing their performance and efficiency on the designated hardware platforms.
  • Overseeing the integration and debugging of algorithms, focusing on enhancing their performance and efficiency when deployed on actual hardware.
  • Drafting technical documentation and algorithm evaluation reports to offer precise technical insights and updates on project progress to both team members and management.
  • Mentoring and instructing the technical staff within the team, disseminating professional expertise, and fostering the technical development of the team. 
Requirements

Education

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in image or signal processing, with hands-on project involvement in ISP or related areas such as medical image processing or real-time video processing.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the physical properties and operational principles of CMOS sensors, coupled with the competency to enhance sensor performance and image quality.
  • Knowledge in optical system design, encompassing lens selection, optical pathway configuration, and the characteristics of optical components, and their impact on image quality.
  • Expertise in various image processing algorithms and techniques, including but not limited to noise reduction, edge detection, color science, and image compression and encoding.
  • Strong programming abilities, with proficiency in languages like C/C++ or Python; familiarity with CUDA or OpenCL for algorithm acceleration is a plus.
  • Preferred experience in deploying and refining image processing algorithms on FPGA or other embedded systems.
  • Independent problem-solving skills, with a strong analytical mindset and innovative thinking, capable of performing well under pressure.
  • A preference for candidates familiar with the standards and regulations of the medical device industry.
