Workdays: Varys with 2 consecutive days off
Work Hours: OVN - 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Mission:

Seton Home works to break the cycle of abuse and poverty by providing a caring home, education, and support services necessary to transform the lives of pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children.


Summary:

All Youth Care Workers may be required to work different shifts in order to meet program needs. Below is a basic description of the general tasks required to be completed throughout the day. The below tasks are only a general outline and other job duties will be assigned in order to meet program needs.


Position Responsibilities:


Shift Specific Expectation & Responsibilities

Morning Routine - AM

  • Help wake residents and supervise morning routine.
  • Supervise morning chores (spray cleaning products for residents) and room checks.
  • Prepare and serve breakfast and assist residents during breakfast clean up.
  • Process medications from pharmacy.
  • Dispense medications.
  • Sort through donations and cottage needs.
  • Provide care and engage in age-appropriate activities for children unable to go to daycare.
  • Supervise any residents unable to attend school, interact and engage in activities with residents and children.
  • Supervise and assist residents with schoolwork while at school in the classroom with assigned schoolwork.
  • Assist residents and engage in vocational classes with residents.
  • Cook and serve lunch to residents and their children.
  • Complete end of shift duties example: ensure cottage is clean, take out all trash and empty recycle bin as needed, clean guest restroom.

Afternoon/Evening Routine - PM

  • Facilitate PE hour and assist with vocational classes.
  • Provide afterschool snack.
  • Help residents with homework.
  • Supervise and log all domestic and international calls for residents.
  • Cook and supervise residents with dinner preparation and clean up.
  • Care for children while residents attend groups and as needed.
  • Plan, supervise, and participate in recreational and/or physical activities as scheduled.
  • Process and dispense medications.
  • Room checks.
  • Fill out all activity logs/resident behavior logs/spirituality logs.
  • End of shift duties: clean guest restroom, take out all trash and empty recycle bin as needed, do last walk through of cottage to ensure cleanliness.

Overnight Routine - OVN

  • Conduct bed checks throughout the night.
  • Check refrigerators/pantry for expired food items.
  • Prepare and set out breakfast for residents.
  • Wake up residents and assist with morning routine and supervision of residents and children.
  • Take scheduled residents to clinic, return completed medical reports to medical coordinator; fax and log any prescriptions.
  • Prepare logs, needs requests, inventory, and resident binders.
  • Process and dispense any medications.
  • Complete daily med audit and email to appropriate personnel.
  • Update medication binders as new intakes arrive.
  • Fill needs requests and log in appropriate folder on s/drive; file hardcopy in residents’ binder.
  • Clean and make ready vacant rooms.

Additional Duties

  • As a Seton Home employee, attendance and successful completion of a 10-day New Employee Orientation is mandated for the position. The inability to meet this requirement will conclude employment with the Agency.

Requirements


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education
    • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent.
    • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 1-year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting.
  • License and Credentials
    • Reliable transportation.
    • Valid driver license.
    • Valid vehicle insurance.
  • Submit to a state and federal background check, Child abuse and neglect registry check, and Tuberculosis screening.
  • Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum of 1-year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting.
  • Some knowledge of computer software, familiarity with or ability to utilize KaleidaCare and MS Office (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneDrive).
  • Ability to set and teach trauma informed care practices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and development preferred.
  • Successful completion and implementation of SAMA.
  • Possess sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
  • Ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served in order to help them gain skills and confidence.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers and professionals.
  • Capacity to maintain a helping role and to intervene appropriately in order to meet service goals.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to empowering others to solve their own problems.
  • Demonstrate a conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.
  • Ability to function independently and in a team setting.
  • Must be bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
