Description

About the job:

Provide tennis program instruction and facility supervision with some independence. Teach the rules and fundamentals of tennis to youth ages 5 - 14. Promote an environment consistent with program philosophies and goals.


A day in the life:

  • Supervises participants in tennis programs and ensures safe use of facilities.
  • Maintains security of facility.
  • Reports vandalism and theft.
  • Maintains all required records and forms.
  • Responds to accidents and incidents according to procedures. Notifies supervisor and appropriate law enforcement or emergency services if necessary. 
  • Sets up and breaks down of equipment and facilities.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of facilities and equipment.
  • Communicates effectively with participants, parents and staff, providing accurate information related to work assignment.
  • Participates in district wide special events as needed.

Schedule:

 This is a seasonal position from early June to mid August.



Requirements

What you'll need for success:

Strong Knowledge of:

  • Tennis instruction including the rules of the sport;
  • Safety guidelines related to assignment. 

Skill and Ability to:

  • Demonstrate initiative, exercise some independent decision making, and plan activities and tasks;
  • Provide leadership from within team;
  • Effectively communicate with staff and public, interact with a variety of patrons/participants;
  • Actively participate in all activities;
  • Establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts.

What we're looking for:

Education, Experience, and Training:

  1. Must be 16 years of age or older; AND       
  2. Currently attending High school or High school diploma or equivalent; AND
  3. Some work/volunteer experience related to position; AND
  4. Basic knowledge of Tennis; OR
  5. Any satisfactory combination of experience and training


Certification:

First Aid/CPR


Supervision Exercised:

Some leadership and direction provided to staff and volunteers.


Supervision Received:  

Work under the general supervision of Sports Program Coordinator. Receive routine (daily/weekly) direction from Tennis Program Specialist.


Working Conditions:

  • Depending on job assignment, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include exposure to environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures.
  • Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends and holidays.  
  • Ability to walk and stand for sustained periods of time with frequent climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting.
  • The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.  
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling, and kneeling in order to deliver equipment and supplies and set-up and break-down equipment and facilities.  
  • Exposure to large crowds, uncooperative or difficult individuals, exposure to illness, and periods of continuous demand

Salary Description
$19.30- $22.00
