Musician - Pianist/Accompanist

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly 

Schedule:  Saturdays and/or Sunday Masses/

3-5 hours per week

Parish: Shrine of St. Padre Pio

Reports To: Pastor



Summary:

The Pianist / Accompanist will be responsible for performing music and choral/cantor accompaniment at various parish services, including two (2) Sunday morning Masses. May be contracted to perform at weddings, funerals and other liturgical events as necessary.  The Pianist / Accompanist will be responsible for enhancing the musical environment as part of the Sunday Liturgy. Must have demonstrated experience with piano/keyboard. 


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides musical support to create prayerful liturgical environment.
  • Assists Pastor and/ or Director of Music Ministry in securing other instrumentalists as needed.
  • Maintains professional and liturgical education through reading, workshops, classes etc.
  • Available to perform at special events including weddings, funerals and other events as needed.
  • Ability to lead choir from the piano, as required, in the absence of the Director of Music.
  • Covers for absent pianists, as necessary and leads rehearsals as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend Archdiocesan required training and meetings on Liturgy and Music.
  • Attends Parish staff meetings as necessary.
  • Actively participates in all “required” attendance Parish events as directed by Pastor and/ or Director of Music and Liturgy.


Requirements

Requirements 

Education and Experience:

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Ability to sing with accurate pitch and rhythm.
  • 2 years’ experience playing piano in a liturgical setting.
  • Basic understanding of Music Theory.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management.

Preferred Additional:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music, Liturgy and/or 2 prior years’ experience.
  • Previous experience/ knowledge of Roman Catholic Liturgy. 
  • Bilingual (English/ Spanish) preferred.
