Staff Accountant
Description

Purpose:

Responsible for the oversight and maintenance of all aspects of payments to vendors, payroll, contracts and property/casualty insurance. Participate in development and implementation of the agency's budgeting and strategic plan to help ensure the financial stability of program offerings and the agency as a whole.

Essential Duties:

Financial Management

  • Create and oversee the annual budget for programs and the agency.
  • Provide mid-year budget and cash flow projections for the Board and Leadership Team.
  • Manage agency cash flow, bank balances and investment accounts.
  • Serve as liaison with the Board Finance Committee, as well as banking, investment and insurance vendors.
  • Manage payroll for the agency.
  • Provide for oversight and maintenance of contracts.
  • Oversee annual audit process.
  • Administer all aspects of property/casualty insurance.
  • Work with the CFO/CEO to create special project projections on an as needed basis.
  • Identify areas of potential cost savings and work with impacted staff to implement.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal standards.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate records.

Accounts Payable

  • Process employee expense reports and pay with bi-weekly payroll.
  • Ensure that checks and cash received are processed and deposited.
  • Oversee revenue posting to the MIP accounting system.
  • Oversee/preparation of monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies as needed.

Payroll

  • Review Employee Time Cards and liaise with supervisors to ensure accuracy.
  • Process payroll bi-weekly for all employees, which includes hourly and salaried staff.
  • Communicate with the Payroll company, Paylocity, regarding any issues or questions related to Payroll.
  • Work with HR, as needed, to ensure payroll accuracy.
  • Assist with Payroll Reconciliation and post JE to accounting system.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Accounting or equivalent experience required.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and Google products with a working knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with Abila MIP Fund accounting software, a plus.
  • Strong customer service skills with ability to communicate in a professional manner with a wide range of people, including staff, auditors, volunteers and clients.
  • Strong skills in planning, organization, evaluation, and written/oral communications.
  • Initiative, reliability, dependability, and maintenance of confidential matters.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and files.
  • Continuously work as a team member and willingness to work with other teams.
  • Ability and willingness to continually improve technical expertise.
  • Professional work attitude/manner and appropriate work attire.

Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to thirty (30) pounds).
  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Ability to sit at a computer work station for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.
  • Work is performed primarily in a non-smoking office environment, though travel may expose employee to inclement weather conditions.
  • Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with clients, staff and volunteers.
