MITAGS is seeking a dynamic and experienced Instructional Designer and Learning Management System Administrator to join our team. This role requires a unique blend of instructional design expertise and technical proficiency in managing Learning Management Systems. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining effective learning experiences through the integration of instructional design principles and LMS administration.


This position reports to the Instructional Design Coordinator for day-to-day activities.  This position will report to the Directors of the East and West Coast Campus for long- and short-term development strategy, funding needs, and other needs not covered by the Instructional Design Coordinator.


 Standard office/classroom setting. Duties may require occasional travel to off-site locations.

First Level: Report to the Directors of MITAGS East and West Coast Campus 

Second Level:  Instructional Design Coordinator for day-to-day activities.

I. MAJOR DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:


1. Instructional Design:  

     a. Develop engaging and effective instructional materials, including e-learning modules, courses, and multimedia content.

     b. Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather and analyze content, ensuring accurate representation in learning materials.

     c. Apply instructional design principles to create content that aligns with organizational learning objectives and meets the needs of diverse learners.

     d. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in instructional design to enhance learning experiences.

2. Learning Management System Administration:

     a. Administer and maintain the Learning Management System, ensuring optimal functionality and user experience.

     b. Manage user accounts, permissions, and roles within the LMS.

     c. Troubleshoot technical issues related to the LMS and provide timely support to users.

     d. Stay updated on the latest features and updates of the LMS platform and implement improvements to enhance functionality.

3. Integration and Innovation:

     a. Integrate multimedia elements, assessments, and interactive components into the LMS to enhance the overall learning experience.

     b. Explore and implement innovative technologies and tools to improve instructional design and LMS capabilities.

     c. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of learning content with the LMS.

4. Training and Support:

     a. Provide training and support to instructors, content creators, and end-users on instructional design best practices and LMS functionality.

     b. Develop and maintain training materials and documentation for LMS users.

     c. Conduct periodic workshops and webinars to enhance the skills of internal stakeholders in instructional design and LMS usage.

    d. Provide back up to the Instructional Design Coordinator in the event of time off or absence at the direction of the Directors.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.

6. Travel to our West Coast Campus.


II. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field.

2. Proven experience in instructional design and development of online learning materials.

3. In-depth knowledge of Learning Management Systems, with experience in administration and troubleshooting.

4. Strong technical skills, including familiarity with multimedia tools and e-learning software.

5. Demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making skills; initiative and ability to perform tasks and projects with minimum or no guidance required. 

6. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

8. Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design models.

9. Experience with popular Learning Management Systems (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas).


III. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education Technology, or a related field.

2. Certification in instructional design or LMS administration.

3. Knowledge of maritime training standards.
